Here are a few more photos from my "gym" out in the boonies of Nevada. The photos show Dutch John Mountain, an insect gall on a juniper tree, and a wild geranium.
I didn't know what an insect gall was until I took that picture. I though it was a flower on the tree. I discovered though that the larvae of a small fly called a juniper tip midge inject a certain chemicals into the tree, which causes the gall to form. The larvae then live safely inside the gall until they mature.
