I had a busy day! Luckily, it was all fun. After a walk this morning where I met two interesting desert creatures, Kevin and I rode our electric bikes about five miles into the Little Picacho Wilderness Area. You'd think riding electric bikes wouldn't much exercise, but on this trip it was. The terrain is extremely rugged and there were a couple places where the road is so bad we had to walk our bikes up the hills. It definitely got my heart racing. Plus, my battery died the last half mile, so I really did some pedaling once that happened.

Photo Description:

1) This view was the climax of our bike ride. That's Ferguson Lake is in the foreground with the Castle Dome Mountains behind.

2) Ferguson Lake is right on the border between Arizona and California.

3, 4, 5 & 6) The Little Picacho Wilderness Area is arid and incredibly rugged.

7) This is a female Magnificent Velvet Ant (Dasymutilla magnifica) that I saw on my walk this morning. Although they look like ants, they're actually wasps. The males have wings and fly, while the females are flightless. Magnificent Velvet Ants are the largest of the approximately 400 species of velvet ants that live in the southwestern desert.

8) I really love seeing the wild burros (Equus asinus) out here.

9) I had to share this photo from last night, as I sat and watched the setting moon.

Absolutely awesome, Lonnie!! It looks like another planet out there! I love the wild burro pictures you take. Such adorable and clever animals. That moon is so incredibly beautiful. I bet it provides so much light in the desert! Enjoy your beautiful gym!!!

I love the burro and the moon and the velvet ant. The photos are all beautiful as always, but my favourite is the first one, Ferguson Lake. What a beautiful place to camp! We once rode some motorbikes up Mauna Kahalawai on Maui, and when we reached a certain altitude, they no longer had the power to carry us, so we had to walk them up the rest of the way. By the time we reached the top, I was dragging and there we saw two people on bicycles! I swore they must have been dropped off by helicopters. LOL!

Great photos, Lonnie! The ant is particularly interesting to me. The moon has been attention grabbing here in NC the past two nights, also. Just seems bigger and brighter. I like how the earthshine lights the dark side of the moon in your photo. Really emphasizes that the other photos are planet close-ups.

Great shots as usual. I'm glad you're able to enjoy the different locations as much and as long as you do. Keep em coming. And so cool that you captured the entire moon. I did on my cell and was thinking it was just picking up glare. Yours is much better, but at least I'm not nuts.

Absolutely beautiful 😍 thanks for sharing these pictures with us! What a pleasure to see this with your own eyes 👏🏻 When my husband and I were moving from Iowa to California we passed Arizona, but saw just itty bitty of it unfortunately. Stoped at several view points in Utah though. Unforgettable experience. Wish to have more time to explore 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
