Ah, Monday, and it's my day off. Why is it that during the work week, I struggle to get out of bed at 7:30 when my alarm goes off, but on my weekends, I'm awake and chipper at 7 AM? Bah. At least I'm on a consistent sleep schedule.
I love summer because I get to swim laps. Yesterday, at the athletic club pool, everybody was fighting over lanes. Too few lanes, too many swimmers. It was getting cut throat. Everybody just needed to relax. I hopped in, did my laps, shared a lane, and nobody died. Who would have thought? I laughed all the way to the steam bath as I left the pool and everybody was being catty about lanes.
Speaking of steam baths.... OH MY GOSH. Steam baths. 100% humidity and extremely hot temperature. I don't think I've ever sweat that much in my whole life. All of my pores were opened up, from my head to my toes. Sweat dripping profusely. They provide eucalyptus oil sprays before you hop in, and the eucalyptus is so wonderful. It opens up your lungs and sinuses. I've discovered that I looooove that steam bath. Just not so much the completely nude old ladies I have to sit near.
So, I tried to go low carb for a few days. By the end of day 1, I was so cranky and miserable that I ate 2 pieces of 12 grain toast and went to sleep before I killed somebody. By the end of day 2, I had lost 3 pounds, was lethargic, nauseous, starving, and cranky. My coworker told me of carb-cycling, meaning you do low-carb for 2 days, regular carb intake for 1 day, and just cycle that way. I ate my normal diet yesterday (I didn't binge on pasta and garlic breads and rice... just my normal diet) and I felt so much better. What the last few days have taught me is to definitely keep informed on my carb intake, because I honestly didn't realize how much I was eating compared to protein. I think that although I'm not sure I can stick permanently to a low carb lifestyle, I can definitely increase my protein and cut out the excessive carbs I've been eating. It's all a learning experience, and I'm happy to have lasted the two days that I did, haha!
I hope everybody has a wonderful Monday, or for me, Meatless Monday. I guess I have to go for a run now. Wish me luck :)
