Ah, another day in Paradise! Raining all morning, about 40F degrees. Temperature is going to start dropping - quickly. We had around 60F yesterday, but I never got outside until after 4:30 when it was time to go home, and since it was raining pretty good, it was damp and cold. But we needed the rain. They say we may even get a couple inches of snow yet this week.

All in all, yesterday was a good day. I ate in moderation, and only had my planned snacks of an orange in the morning, and a Yoplait light yogurt between lunch and supper. I love those yogurts; they are like desert to me. For only 80 or 90 calories, I don't think they can be beat; sorry Atkins folks, it's carbolicious!

Got on the treadmill last night. I'm still feeling out how fast to walk and how fast I want to run on my run/walk program. It really doesn't matter; once you get to being able to jog or run for 30 minutes without stopping, you'll begin to run quicker intervals to improve on your speed anyway. I'm only walking at about 3.0 mph and then jogging at 5.0 mph for a total of 35 minutes. That's not really pushing myself, but it burns off about 300 calories and I can already feel like I'm chomping at the bit for another 5K.

I'm an emotional eater, so I vowed never to get depressed again. Yeah right, like that's going to happen! You all know where I'm coming from. No matter what plan you're following, whatever gimmick you think works for you, and no matter how many happy thoughts you think, you know you are going to have down days. And you know when you have down days, you're going to look for something that makes you feel better - at least for the moment. And if you are an emotional eater, and I think 99% of us would have to admit we are, you're going to turn to food. And usually, you're headed toward volume instead of quality. So, plan for those bad days. So, if I am exercising positive affirmation, how can I have a bad day? Really? Even the moon's position and increased gravitational pull can effect your blood pressure and cause you to feel gloomy whether you choose to or not. You don't sit in a dentist's chair and say, "This feels great!" even when it hurts like hell. You recognize that you are going to go through some personal sacrifice or temporary discomfort for the long term benefit. It's no different with pursuing this lifestyle change we are pursuing. When your resolve begins to weaken, try this; and if you don't plan it ahead of time, it won't work: indulge yourself in a measured amount of something you crave, and would normally binge on, and tell yourself, after you've eaten that planned amount, that you are going to give yourself another 15 minutes to think about it before you eat the whole container. Now Run! Go somewhere. Get the heck away from it! Go for a walk, take a shower, run, go to the gym, walk the dog, read a book in another room. Remind yourself that you stuck to your plan, and you took control as planned - successfully - and pat yourself on the back. You're a winner. Got to go. Have a wonderful day, my FS Friends! Toodles!

Usually an active man can burn a whole lot more carbs than "the weaker sex" - LOL. And thanks again for "telling it like it is". I told Bren you were turning into a Drill Sargent (but a nice one).

I agree. I sometimes will have a day where I really struggle and if I can push through it the next day I am fine. Not sure what triggers me though besides times when I have waited to long to eat my next meal.

They do have some great dessert-y yogurt flavors! I find the dairy makes me bloated, though, which doesn't happen with chobani greek yogurt. More calories, but more protein too, and I've gotten used to the taste! Blood orange is delicious!

Sometimes I find that even a healthy in-between-meal snack works against me, so it's important for me to carefully choose my snacks. For example, If I want to make it from lunch to supper, without binging, eating an apple or orange is not a good idea for me. After an hour or two, the citric acid or pectin or whatever is in those things, working on my gut will start to make me feel like I'm starving, and motivate me to devour something soothing. I reserve the orange or apple for the morning snacks.

Great advice that I will take to heart - it is OK to give in once in a while, just limit the volume, and it won't completely sabotage your plans. No one is perfect and an occasional slip make us human! Great job on the treadmill - I don't know if I will ever be able to run on it. I picture myself ending up on America's Funniest Home Videos!
