Why is it so hard? I keep overeating and eating when I’m not hungry. I am very disappointed in myself I was at 69kgs not so long ago and now I’m at 73kgs 😔. I keep trying to starve myself but my friends say it is bad but when I eat I tend to overeat. I don’t want to give up but sometimes I do consider giving up ☹️I don’t know what to do anymore!!

Babaykgosi, you need to find a healthy balance. Actually posting about your struggle is a step in helping yourself too, so thank you for your bravery and honesty! Starving yourself is unhealthy and leads to over-eating. Both messes with your metabolism and is a sign of unhealthy behaviour. Meal planning, snack planning can help. Set food limits, eat regularly and properly, take it one day at a time - all these things can help. Instead of looking for an end point or at the scale, have a plan that gets you through one day at a time and helps you stick to your calorie requirements. Also, be kind to yourself: stop fighting with you, but become your own best friend on your weight loss journey. Keep posting, keep trying and know this is a battle we all fight one bite at a time, one meal at a time and one day at a time. You need to have a battle plan for each day and each week: looking at the food we plan to buy and eat. Then you start again. We win this battle by small victories every day - and YOU can do this!

You should rather try Intermediate fasting before starving yourself! Try an app to help count the hours of fasting, it helps me not eating during fasting! Ms Cornwall is right, try to restrict your calories. And carbs and sugar are killers!

I used to starve myself when I was over 100kgs, but I found that doing that made me eat more, and eat worse foods in the long run. Just try your best, that’s all we can do, and don’t beat yourself up if you’re not perfect, because none of us are perfect. You got this. You can do it.

I find that if I eat well(nutritionally dense foods) , then it is easier to not overeat at the next meal. Plan your meals in advance when you're resolve is high and have nothing else available to you. I find drinking black coffee helps me. Its low cal but I love the taste so it makes me feel less deprived

Overeating/binging is something I think most of us can relate to. Ms Cornwall had a great response and I would just like to add that we contribute to our own low self esteem by allowing ourselves to overeat the one day and starve the next. Thats not just unhealthy for your body but your own mental well-being. Ask yourself the root question. And answer yourself brutally honestly: WHY ARE YOU HURTING YOURSELF LIKE THIS? If you can answer yourself honestly and identify why you are doing this, then you can start with the building blocks towards a healthier relationship with food. I am where you are, and taking it day by day. But identifying my depression, and my own contribution to my unhealthy state, I have allowed myself forgiveness and breathing room to try and repair the damage done.

I found that intermittent fasting works best for me! I stop eating at 8pm and start eating at midday. I logged my calories religiously and somehow I did not overeat. I been ill for three weeks and needed to take medication which inhibited me from fasting and I’ve been overeating since then. For me the fasting has worked best after I’ve tried many many diets over the years. I still eat what I want but would watch my portion size and stick to my calorie limit. It’s worth a try!

I heard a wonderful statement today that I must share: “Respect your body for what it does, instead of punishing it for how it does not look!” I was so moved by this statement, and I’m sharing it with you so that you focus on the positive of your body - what it does, rather than how it does not look! Because with respect comes kindness, patience and love and ultimately acceptance. Hating how our bodies do not look will not change how they look. However respecting them for what they do for us, every single day allows us to be grateful and this kinder to ourselves. Don’t measure your journey to health and fitness by the scale alone. Your emotional and mental health and well being are equally important. Start by making a daily pledge to respect your body, one small action at a time, each day. The FS Family is here to support you very step of the way. Don’t give up on your self, don’t give up on your health Because you’re Worthy!
