I'm having a really rough time right now. Two weeks ago, one of my best friends died, probably from heart failure. Two days ago my older sister died in her sleep, also probably from heart failure. I'm depressed and not motivated to do anything, plus I'm going for comfort food. But at the same time, I recognize the problem of heart disease, and how inactivity combined with a poor diet can literally be fatal. I know I need some time to grieve and process this, but I just don't want to let the whole thing get to me and lead to a 20 lb weight gain. That probably sounds like vanity, but I know my FS friends will understand. It's just going to be hard to bounce back from this. I hope everyone out there is okay, and remember you're doing this for your HEALTH!

So sorry to hear about your losses. Try to remember the good times and thoughts about your sister and your friend. This should help brighten your mood. Try to keep healthy things in the house to nibble on. Try to prep them so that they will be available. If you are doing comfort food. Put into small containers and eat it with small bites and chew well. Savour your food while you are eating it. Don't scarf your food. I purchase things in snack sized containers off of Amazon. This has helped me a lot. I know I am not safe with a whole box of Cheese-Its, but can keep myself happy with just a small baggie of them. I know how hard it is to bring yourself out of a funk. Just try to keep with it. We are here for you.

So sorry for your loss! We do understand, and of course it is not vanity!! Be gentle with yourself and maybe seek out someone to talk to/process with. Hang in there.

So sorry for your losses. It's so understandable that you are reaching out to comfort food. And it's good that you are aware that these need to be handled with caution. Sending support; take care of yourself.

Any life changing event can throw us into a tail spin, especially death to ones close to us. One day at a times, try to see/ feel something positive in that day. Do something, anything you enjoy that doesn't involve food. Focus on that... it will get easier. I'm just coming out of a 6 month funk, lots of changes in my life. I'm 72 and life keeps throwing me good and bad. Clinging to the good and waiting for bad to fade away. Hugs & hang in there. It will get better.

I am so sorry to hear of your losses. Grief is a complex emotion and can affect behavior, sleep and appetite. Try to rest, treat yourself with kindness and don't beat yourself up if you slip a bit with food choices. Reasonable portions of 'forbidden' foods may add a pound or two, but depriving yourself of comfort might lead to a binge which is much worse. My heart goes out to you and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
