Today is the 4th day of the government shutdown, and the 4th day I've been forced to come to work with no pay. The government is the only employer legally allowed to give an IOU for work, yet we are not allowed to take any leave. There are people in my office who have had to cancle Dr Appointments or be considered AWOL. What a disgraceful situation this country is in. I will get paid for last week and monday, which leaves me 4 days short on next friday's pay check... after that the government will send me a bill for my health insurance if the budget is not passed by next week. So, not only will I not be paid, I am still expected to pay my benefits or lose coverage. What do they expect people to pay benefits with... or pay child care to show up for work... or gas to get to work. I am in a better situation than most, and my situation is pitiful at the moment.
