Feeling a bit chatty lol... So I've reduced my calorie intake (down to 1200 a day) but as time goes by I find myself not wanting to eat all the time... Which is a good thing... But... Last week I averaged about 1077 cal a day... And some days I didn't even hit 900 cals. I guess my stomach is shrinking because I eat smaller portions but I've seen people posting that anything below 1000 cals is not healthy and now I'm trying to reach that 1200 a day...but I have this inner fear that I'm going to slide back into bad habits of overeating. Gosh! It's quite a mental exercise trying to get that balance.

hi. yeah. I would be one of those people 😂 my sister had bariatric surgery to lose weight. she lost about 50 kg in less than 3 months. the surgery required her to stop smoking for 6 months prior and improve her cardio with swimming and running. they made her work for it. the surgery also required that she and our whole family attend group therapy. the surgery cuts out 90% of the stomach. leaving literally only 10%. a tiny little thing. on this. she eats approximately 800-1000 calories per day. this is done under the strictest medical observation and should not be taken lightly by anyone. under 1000cal is what a child should eat. it is not safe for adults to eat so little. by restricting calories of around 500 a day, you are guaranteed to lose weight. it may be slow. but it is a much healthier, sustainable way to do it that won't risk major medical issues down the road. too few calories = hair loss, skin problems, hormone imbalance, fertility issues, mood imbalance, metabolism problems, muscle loss. not worth it in mho. 😘

Shihaam I feel you, lol those posts about 900 or so cals being so unsustainable has got me stressed. Im worried that I will pick up all the weight I've lost so far (10kgs since 15 June). But honestly I think I might have been eating about 1500 cals at most before, but with those cals being unhealthy snacks and cold drinks, and now its difficult to get up to 1200 cals of healthy food. (my RDI is 1700) For me, my protein intake is really lacking so I'm gonna see if upping that helps. Maybe check your food group breakdown and see where you can fit in some extra cals?

I swear I wish they would stop throwing recommendations around like confetti... if I’m not hungry then I don’t eat but if I’m unusually hungry then I allow myself a tad more than my usual portion. I believe it’s all about balance. And I cannot fathom how forcing yourself to consume a certain amount of calories is healthy - physically or mentally 😊

Looking at the successes of, and I’m not intentionally singling people out here, people like Shereen and listening to her advice on how many cals to eat etc, I stress about this daily. Carson Chow used mathematical science to work out how many cals a person should eat. Now I’m 1.8 and this guy’s method brings me to a median of 1565 cals daily so if I subtract 500 cals, my RDI is approx 1000 cals. BUT I get stuck every 2 weeks and I honestly think it’s because I’m not eating enough so back to Shereen’s advice. And as Courts said, the fear of gaining all of it back with a RDI that’s too low often freaks me out

Andicap... That is all good and well... But eating too few calories is dangerous!!! many people on here want to lose weight and are prepared to do some drastic things to make that happen. For those of us with experience in different aspects of discussions, not to speak up would be irresponsible. I agree. Eat mindfully. But it doesn't come easily to many. Even after doing this consistently for two years, I still don't trust myself enough to eat without tracking and counting. Counting calories and tracking consumption is one of the ways that helps for people who struggle to monitor what they are eating and to find out what works for them.

@andicap- warning warning confetti approaching... @shihaam- i hear your difficulty, but it’s important to realise that 1200cals can be different volumes of food, so possibly to achieve your 1200cal minimum you could eat things like nuts, avo etc... which are healthy fats but low volume foods which are high in calories therefore making it easier for you to maintain the healthy 1200 calories consumption.

Sometimes we can convince our mind that less is working out for us. But not so much when it becomes a daily thing. Every now and then sure. In the long run the body will have its say and the weight often returns. I dont track daily because I personally find it to be obsessive but when i do, I notice my intake is about 1400-1500

Thanks everyone for your input and advice and confetti 😋 you've given me some food for thought and some good ideas on how to create that balance. I most definitely want the healthier and most sustainable path possible...without feeling like I'm depriving myself completely of some luxurues. It definitely is a learning curve but I'm also enjoying this new journey with you guys! 🤗
