Hi, everybody! For the next couple weeks I get to do my walks at Patterson Pass in Nevada. We camped here last June on our way north. Now we're here on our way south. The weather's nice and cool here due to the elevation of 6,100 feet, so we're gonna hang here a little while and enjoy it.
Photo Description:
1) The environment here is called a pinyon-juniper woodland, because it's dominated by pinyon pine trees (Pinus monophylla) and Utah juniper trees (Juniperus osteosperma).
2) This juniper is on the edge of the tree line. Beyond it the trees are sparse.
3) We're surrounded by mountains here. We're in a valley called Lake Valley.
4) This is the path I'm using for my fast-paced walk. It's a gravel road, so I have to wear my hiking boots. I can also explore the nature trails through the forest, and this places is very popular with ATVers because of the ATV trails.
5) The mountain in the background is Dutch John Mountain.
6) Our campsite has no electric or water, but does have a covered picnic table, a fire ring, and a charcoal grill, all for free. We make our own electricity (solar) and bring our own water.
