Hi peeps

Today is day 6 of my Sober October Quest ..... I don't know if it's me or not, but my sleeping habits in the past have always been a little cranky with only having 4-5 hours per night with an occasional hour of ZZZ's during the day, I have to admit that for the last couple of nights I've slept over 8 hrs and am not kipping during the day!! ..... If there's anyone on FS that is doing Sober October and having similar results, let me know, it will be very interesting to see ..... MM x

My sleeping pattern hasn't changed much at all. I'm always up 2 or 3 times during the night with back pain. Even if I went to bed sozzled I'd still be up lol. Is it day 6 already? Only another 25 to go! I did it last year for MacMillan Cancer Research but I think people are getting fed up these days asking for sponsor money. I'm just doing it for me this year! Good luck

Hi Gilly B, This year I've already sponsored Race for Life (cancer research), Dogs Trust and the Air Ambulance, So like you I'm doing Sober October just for me, it gets on my nerves when charities at the supermarkets approach you and ask for your bank details to sign up for monthly donations, I only give money to them as and when I can afford to, I don't and I won't divulge that sort of information to anyone not even my hubby!!! I'm taking a box of food this week to the food bank run by the Salvation Army they do a great job, You see I am a very charitable person as and when I want to be ..... So Gilly B, 25 more days to go cold turkey, We can do it, No Probs ..... MM x

I do sober october and dry january every year. I always sleep well in general but I am sleeping very deeply just now and feel groggy in the morning.

I'm always in bed by 10pm at the moment but wake several times during the night. By 6am I've had enough and have to get up!

Woke up a little while ago to the sound of vehicles reversing 'BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP' due to the builders on phase 3 of the new housing development half a mile away, the noisy beggars ..... like you Anne_145 I must be having deeper sleep cos I'm not functioning well for the first hour of waking, brain fog I think ..... Got to be all those nasty toxins exiting my body, but never mind I'm going to have another cuppa tea

I always sleep so much better when I’ve not had a drink.

That is just like me just now Maggy. Brain fog for about an hour, could be the toxins? And I am drinking lots of tea too. I have cut back on coffee just now purely cause it is no fun in the coffee shop due to COVID!

I noticed that when I stopped drinking in june my sleep immediately improved

Hi JanusWoman I totally agree with you, for many a year I've been going to bed around midnight and waking between 5 and 5.30am daily but since leaving the Demon Drink alone my sleep pattern has changed dramatically, so health wise it's got to be better for me !! Only time will tell ..... Anne _145 I'm drinking less coffee lately and drinking more tea, I love green and red bush tea the best but have ordinary black tea thrown into the mix a couple of times a day, thinking of investing in a small Tea Urn as the kettle is always on the boil

I have not done sober October . And during the past 6 months my drink has changed from Ale then onto white wine , then Rose wine and I am afraid that I am now on Bailys,. But I am drinking less now as I cannot play ladies darts on Wednesdays. Well done to everyone on sober October. And thankyou Maggie for my 'Welcome' back.

Ah Lily, all the calorific drinks! I like a cava (or champagne if I am lucky) I do envy the folks who can have a gin/vodka and slimline to keep the calories down.

Oh, Lily! Bailey's what a scrumptious drink that's my favourite Xmas tipple, once I start drinking it one glass is just not enough, I have been known in the past to get through a bottle on my own (what a confession to make) but I only do it at Crimble Time, Thank God its only once a year!!

if u drink alcohol it knocks you out for a couple of hours then once the alcohol is out of your system your bady craves more hence waking up earlier or unsettled sleep throughout the night. it can take upto 5 days for your body to adjust and not crave alcohol so often you can go a few nights with unsettled sleep. A good nights sleep can help with weight loss too. I did a alcohol experiment very similar to sober October but I learned about alcohol and the effects it has on the body and health. I now rarely drink ( maybe twice a year) . Good for you doing this it's a great cause and your giving your body chance to repair ( even if you only drink 1 or 2 a week ) x

Well done on the first week 🥳 it’s great you’re sleeping better! That first groggy hour is great for yoga (after checking FS, lol.) Cath you’re right about sleep helping weight loss. When you’re tired you feel hungrier even though you don’t need more. Gilly have a read of ‘Why We Sleep’ by Matthew Walker, the first chapter was enough to scare me into sleeping better 😂
