I'm hoping some of you who are macro-counting mavens will have some insight for me on a question. I've been reading various articles on macros and have figured out percentage-wise where I think I'd like to be for macros. But, I haven't run across anything that helps me figure out if my calorie count is LESS than it should be, but, the macro count is off (ie., too much fat or carbs based on the total daily calories consumed) would that generally have a negative effect. Logically, it seems like it would not if my calories are less than they should be, but, sometimes logic has nothing to do with losing weight LOL. Anyone have any thoughts?

I have a few thoughts but I'm definitely not well schooled or an expert. First we should have a rough idea of what we're putting out to know how much to put in. This app does ok with the estimates but either I overestimate my activity or they overestimate my calories. The app always sets me high (2700 kcal to.maintain) I have a fitbit to track but that's not extremely accurate. My output averages 3200 a day with my BMR figured in (according to my fitbit app). I set my calories at 2400 for fat burn currently. I also had a former body builder and current cross firt junkie at work (she's mid to late 50s) tell me as we age we need more protein to help maintain muscle mass and burn fat. So I'm set at 40%protein and split fat and carbs for the other 60. I'm 43 heading to 44 in September.

Not sure if this helps. Everything is just a huge trial and error with me. I play with macros and workouts untill I start seeing results I want.

hebrews thanks for responding. Yes, all info is helpful!! It sure would be great if we all came with a “User Manual”.

I'm not sure I understand the question completely but Layne Norton recently published a video about why calories/macros don't always match on trackers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9eKyfblh-Q

Thanks LC. I'll check that out. So much bad info out there. That's why Im just one big experiment. I like the lab better than the lecture. Always my problem in school. I appreciate the research. But there often seems to be a bias. And nothing is cut and dried for each person.

Lol Hebrews, I'm biased in favor of the research and cautious about how I interpret self-experimentation. Often, we think we understand why something "works" or gives us different results, but we don't really understand the mechanism.
