Exercise is the only thing that works for me. You could try low carb to start, then switch to CICO for sustainability 😉

Thanks LambiePi! Exercise is hard to do with this disease (I miss being active!) but maybe I'll try low carb first.

I have Hashimoto’s disease and I feel tired most of the time. It helps that I have daily goals set and am committed to meeting or exceeding those goals 😊 It gets easier when it becomes a habit 😉 Also important, drink lots of water & get plenty of sleep. Getting enough sleep is really hard for me.

I started following some of the food protocols stated in “Thyroid Healing”.... I have limited a lot of the inflammatory foods... but the best daily regime I follow is drinking celery juice in the AM 15 minutes before eating and drinking cucumber juice before going to bed.... IT WORKS!!’ My friend has Hasimoto’ and it has changed her life!

I have severe Hashimotos. I started exercising slow and now I'm up to 5-6 days of weight lifting and 3 of those days include cardio. I lost almost 50 lbs. It took me about 4 years to get here though. I started following a low carb, (100 grams per day) low fat, ( 35-40 gs a day) and high protein ( 80-100 gs a day) Now in maintenance, I loosely follow CICO with an emphasis on higher protien. It is what worked for me!

hi, I was on the same situation with you last month, before I later sort myself out but if I may ask whats your immediate weight loss goal with this condition?

Keto is not good for low thyroid. It's to limited in foods that are good for thyroid function. To little insulin can impair the livers ability to convert the inactive thyroid hormone (T4) to the active form of triiodothyronine (T3)

Thank you LambiePi, awekiss, Diana, Kenna, cstrutz, Polska and brownsmith1! I appreciate your helpful tips. I have gained weight since being diagnosed last year and I need to get it off. My immediate weight loss goal is to get back to my pre-diagnosed weight. I am already sluggish from it, so the extra pounds make it so much more difficult for me. I am naturally a very active person but I am trapped in my body now. It's very hard to exercise but I would like to start any low impact moves that might help. I will try your tips! Thank you again

Saxenda is the only thing added to diet and exercise that actually help get over it.

Hello! I have hypothyroidism hashimotos and while everyone is different I changed my lifestyle completely and I have been seeing results slowly. I removed all gluten, red meats and processed food (still have some frozen) from my diet. I have Healthy snacking and no pops and I’ve incorporated more walking and 45 minutes of boxing 3-4 days a week. I’m loosing on average 3-4 lbs a month!!! Take time and see what your body reacts to. It’s hard to break old habits so go one step at a time and not overload or overwhelm yourself. If you fall down get back up quickly 😊 I hope you have much success.

Thank you, Qua83! That is very encouraging to hear. I needed that motivation this morning :) That's an amazing amount of weight loss! I would love to have those results. And it would be fun to do boxing too. I am doing swim aerobics twice a week right now. Thanks again!!

Hello Rivy! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 10 years ago, after I had my tumor removal surgery. I’ve always struggled with my weight, but since then I slowly increased to being fairly obese. One of the worst things for me is the lethargy. Drinking a ton of water and tea, and cutting out coffee, has helped, as has taking vitamin D/D3 supplements. A solid routine also is essential. I also motivate myself by watching weight loss and fitness shows, instead of Food Network all the time. Another issue is digestion. My digestion is sooooo slow, and at any point in time I may be carrying a pound of waste in my intestines. Sorry, overshare. But what helps me with that is intermittent fasting, and drinking juiced fruits and vegetables. Fasting until lunch allows my thyroid pill PLENTY of time to absorb, and it also allows me to have around 600 calories for lunch, and 600 for dinner. Or I eat less at a meal, and can have a snack. I struggle to eat enough fruit, and some vegetables cause me digestive upset, but it’s easier for me to get the nutrients by juicing them. If you are financially solvent, I might also recommend getting a dog. My dog helps me get up in the morning, and keeps me active. Sometimes it’s hard for me to do things for the sake of myself, but for his sake, I’m able to say “ugh, okay, let’s do a quick walk.” As for Saxenda, most insurance companies (if you’re US-based) don’t cover it unless you’re diabetic or pre-diabetic. For the same price, you can buy a $200 rowing machine and do a low-impact workout at home, with free YouTube videos to guide you. Hopefully some of this helps!

Thank you FocacciaBread! I appreciate your advice! The lethargy is the worst for me too, that's the biggest reason why I struggle to exercise. Like you, I've been watching glow-ups on youtube and it's very motivating! I will try IF and juicing. I haven't done much juicing before but Ive always wanted to get in the habit of it. A rowing machine would be a great idea! I used to spend time on one when I had a gym membership. Just need to make room in the house lol Thanks again for all of your ideas!!

Grab a friend and get out and walk. Make what you do for exercise a social occasion— with friends and laughter. To start with it is often easier if you have someone else to do it with. I have a little group that I put together with a challenge of walking 500 miles before the end of the year. It is by no means a competition, just a “let’s see if we can get close”. An excuse for us to get together in whatever numbers can be managed that day. We have nice wide trails to walk where I live and we are all masked up as well as vaccinated. See what you can do. Get creative. Exercise is also called PLAY. I will drop what I’m doing to go outside and play with my friends. It’s the habit you want to build and it helps to overcome that fatigue.
