Yesterday, I left my journal when an earthquake hit.
I was experiencing a foreshock not realizing it.
The back door rattled so hard it was like someone was trying to get in. I was very spooked it was 4 AM my husband was asleep and I thought maybe it could be my son, but there was no other noise after that, so I got my pepper spray ready and was on the alert. Thank goodness for the Neighbors app, someone had texted there had been a little earthquake so I settled down and I went back to business.
Well, lo and behold about a half hour later we had a large earthquake where the whole house rattled. I was screaming, my husband jumped out of bed, and then it stopped.
It wasn’t that big, but I had never ever experienced a foreshock before, so it was very interesting.

Fortunately, California earthquakes have been a bit out in the desert, so people don’t get hurt.

But a few snakes were rattled😆

Glad it wasn't anything major! It's funny how sometimes it takes our brain a few minutes to figure out what's really going on. Hope you had a great day today!

Glad you and yours are safe after all that. Lived for awhile as a child in Alaska. Had a few quakes Normal for there. Here in Virginia, had one that shook the building where I worked at the time. The people who worked for me thought it was the military base doing testing.

All we felt was just an extremely minor tremble down here in the OC . That was about o4:45. Nothing after that.

Shirfleur1— I remember the ‘64 quake. I was in high school, living in Orange County. My family was sitting in a Chinese restaurant that had a high glass chandeliers above our heads. All of a sudden that thing started swaying from one side of the room to the other. So. Scary. The cities of REDDING AND CRESCENT CITY were pretty much wiped out as well. That is about as far down as California’s tsunami exposure goes. It’s a geological thing, Down south, it’s possible that with a BIG ONE we could have water surge for as far as 30 miles inland but tsunami would be very unlikely, almost impossible. But, if the quake were that big, it wouldn’t even matter.

Kenna, that must have been awful! I was in Louisiana and didn't feel anything of course. But seeing the evidence in Alaska today and having seen the videos on YouTube, I know there are some things no building can survive.
