I'm feeling amazing. I'm not losing pounds because I'm putting on muscle now since I'm doing weight training, but my clothes are fitting differently. I'm so excited. I signed up for the YMCA a few days ago and I got to go today. It was awesome I was using everything- some people gave me odd looks. I think I was using some weights wrong, but whatever, I'll get it. I was also bouncing around to music and smiling like a creep, so maybe that's another reason why they were looking at me. I don't know, and don't care. It was fun and exciting and I can't wait to see what the end of next week brings me. Hopefully another 3 pound weight loss! -squee-

Good luck to everyone on their weight loss (or gain if you're going that way)! Have an amazing week!

Good for you on getting into some weight training. Are you on any defined programming? Or just getting into some lifting without programming. I am into powerlifting and always try to encourage women to give it a try, such as my wife. She is afraid of bulking no matte how much I tell her she will not, unless she does so on purpose. If you are not on any kind of programming, there are a few good sites where you can learn the basics and get into a program for beginners. One in particular is Startingstrength.com.

Isn't exercising wonderful? I love it too. Keep up the good work. And be careful with your form when weight training. You can do damage. If possible and if there is anyone there who can give you guidance and direction, ask them for the proper form for the various exercises.

Resistance training must be in a weight loss program so keep pumping.

GeezerDude: I'm just doing weight without a program. I'm focusing on my arms/stomach/back since those are the weakest parts. You're wife really should get into it, because you're right, you can't bulk up like that unless if you want to purposely. Thank you for the link. I'll take a look!

ClassicRocker: Yes it is wonderful. Thank you very much. I was thinking about asking, but guys sort of intimidate me when they have 50 pound weights in each hand and I have just 10. Haha.

aamaddux, you should look into a beginners program where you work the entire body through squatting, deadlifting, bench pressing and over head press. You could begin with an empty bar and add like 5 lbs to the bar each session or once a week or so. If possible, you could find someone to help coach you in these lifts. Those 4 lifts have an impact on the entire body when done correctly and will get you further than any isolation lifts can.

That sounds like a great idea, and I'll start with that. I'll have to be careful though because I have a nerve that always gets pinched in my neck when I do weight training with arms. It makes the back of my neck go numb to the center of my back, and right arm.

Pinching a nerve may be a sign that you are doing something wrong. Be careful. Do not use too much weight, especially on movements you are not familiar with.

GeezerDude: I tend to use lower weights just because of that reason. I want to slowly get used to the movement and add pound by pound. Hopefully my body will adapt to it better if I do it that way.

Slowly, pound by pound is the only way to do it. I once had a setback from power lifting for a year and re-started with an empty barbell. I recently had a two and a half month lay off from lifting because of illness and re-started at a much lower weight than from where I left off from. You are correct that your body will adapt better by taking it slow. Strength training is my passion, and I appreciate it when I see ladies who are getting into it. My daughter has dabbled some, but my wife will not have anything to do with it.

That's good that you were able to work up to it again. It's a shame your wife won't give it a go. Good for your daughter though!
