Good Afternoon, FS Warriors! Dragging a little today. Went to bed at 10:30 last night, about an hour later than I wanted to. I needed to get up at 3:30 this morning because the schedule called for me to up my run to 3.0 miles, and I hadn't gone that far since I started this journey 3 months ago, and didn't know how long it would take me. But, I did get up at 3:30 and I did run. However, I wasn't trusting my Nike Sportband's distance measurement, so I ran for 3.5 miles just to be on the safe side. I kept my HR down below 150 to make sure it was an easy run and I could go the distance. Walked out the door and it was about 42F degrees, and very windy. Wasn't looking too promising, but a half-mile later, I was warming up. It was actually a good run and a good workout. I am just a little skeptical of the distance measurement because, when I shorten my stride to keep my HR down, the Sportband always tells me I've gone farther than I have, because it counts steps, and I was making more of them. I ordered the Nike+ GPS Sportswatch this morning; it has the best of both worlds, still uses my shoe sensor and HR monitor, but also has GPS and hooks up with the Nike+ website, just like my Nike+ Sportband. So, here's hoping I won't have to look like Mr. Gadget going down the road with a separate HR monitor, gps watch and nike sportband.

I was signing up for this Creat-i-vets 5K run on May 24th to support veterans with emotional disorders, but they cancelled the event for lack of interest. I think they just failed to promote the event. Ughh! Instead, they are having some kind of party and raffles at a local bar, which I am unlikely to go to. Too far from home. So I spent some time yesterday looking for other events I might participate in. I'm thinking about a run for Muscular Distrophy they are having at the college park district, and another annual run for what they call "Old Settler Days." There is a Warrior run (scaled down version of the Warrior Dash, with 5 obstacles, including the mud) held in the town next to where I live, that I am seriously considering. Obviously, I won't be wearing any gadgets to measure distance, you're only participating in those for fun, and to see if you can still make it through it.

OK, got to go. Here's wishing all my FS Friends a wonamous evening. Toodles!

40-50 degrees is great for running, but not so much when its windy out, ugh! I'd vote to find the flattest 5k race course you can and do that one first ;)
