Good Morning, FS Warriors! Well, out the door at 4, even though I set the alarm for 3:30. Just one of those mornings where I got a half hour of exercise just having to run back up the stairs to get something I forgot, over and over again. A good strong three miles this morning. Strong for me anyway. It was warm and humid, and I sweat buckets for at least 45 minutes after I was finished. Only averaged a 12:00 minute pace, but considering the heat and humidity, I felt pretty good about that. I thank my new shoes. Haha, though I think they probably did have something to do with it. I had 500 miles on the old pair, and I don't think there was much cushioning left. Tread was gone in places and the soles had road rash where it looked like I could have a blow-out anytime. I decided that since my shoes had been so good to me over the last couple of years, I would stick with the same model - Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11's. Well, there were 3 upgrades since I bought those, and the new versions were GTS 14's at $133.00 everywhere I checked. So I started surfing the web, and found a pair of GTS 13's for $65.00, no tax, and free shipping. Hmmm, that seemed like a no brainer to me. Took a chance, and the rest is history. Fit great. Now I can relegate the other pair to mowing the lawn, or maybe a Warrior Dash when I'm feeling froggy.
I found I could show a weight loss of 3 or 4 pounds if I weighed in after a run, but it just didn't seem ethical, and it would just make it tougher to show a loss after that. I guess I'll keep that one as an ace in the hole if I take on a challenge and am in danger of going down in defeat.
BTW, here's an interesting diet thing I picked up. I love to add berries and granola to vanilla yogurt for breakfast or a snack, but that snack can add up to about 500 calories all by itself. I'm sure some of you have already discovered this, but here goes: I found this Carbmaster Vanilla flavored Cultured Dairy Blend which has about 1/3 the calories of the yogurt at 80 calories per cup. I searched for a granola substitute for the sweetness and crunch, but couldn't find anything great. I did like one person's idea to crumble up a caramel rice cake and put it in there. I didn't have a caramel rice cake, but I did have cinamon chex cereal, also at less than 1/2 the calories of the granola. I put in some fresh pineapple chunks, and Voila, I had a delicious breakfast for under 200 calories. And the great thing about the Carbmaster blend was that it gave me over 12g of protein (only 5g of carbs) right after the exercise when I needed it the most. So, anyway, I like it and it works for me.
Life is good, but too short to hang around here gabbing all day, so Toodles!
