Made farmers cheese! It took a few days of patience but today I have some curds and whey. Its a very bland, young cheese that my husband usually has with sugar sprinkled on it.

Looks amazing! So did you spoil it or did you vinegar it? I bought a gallon of milk yesterday to try the spoil method.

I put vinegar in it. Honey joys science talk and milk here being pasteurized made sense. It still took about 48 hours to look properly split which seemed strange but the cheese is good. Tastes like farmers cheese. I might try to see what it does on its own with a smaller batch but this was my first time making it on my own. I kept the whey and read it can be subbed into any recipe that calls for water. It seemed a waste to throw it away when it still has so many nutrients in it. I'm going to try my oatmeal tomorrow made with the whey.

It’s also acidic enough to add to marinade like yogurt. I also give it to the dogs in their food.

I tried to make cottage cheese once without a lot of success. I may look for a recipe for this.

Ahhhh, looks great! I freeze whey and use it in pancake batter or in bread when I make it on occasion. 48 hours sounds right; your place is cold I'm guessing. In the summer it will be closer to 24 hours. Hi Yfritz! Look what you have started.)))

Kenna its just letting the milk sit until it splits and then boiling it. If I did it again I would add some more salt when boiling but you might want to try it plain the first time. Let the whole milk sit until it splits (keep it in a clear, open topped container so you can see) and the boil it until curds form. Sieve the curds from the whey with fine cloth (cheese cloth or a clean, old t-shirt). It's like dry curd cottage cheese when it's all done. I added about half a cup of vinegar to help mine split. I used a half gallon of milk.

Reese all cheese are made with a variation of this method. Unless you don't eat cheese at all you're just scared of seeing how the metaphorical sausage is made 😂

Thank you bdixon. I’m going to try this.

Oh Reese— you would be surprised what you would eat if you were really hungry. Been there, done that.

Katsolo thanks for the tip! I put some whey in my dogs dinner and he liked it. He's been terrible about eating his food lately and I used up all the chicken broth I made for him so it was really helpful. He at almost all of his food which is about the same as using the broth.
