My husband and I are on a little retreat from normal life for a couple days. The Oregon coast is where we landed. The weather is rotten, but the view is wonderful. We made a lovely little dinner of salmon and veggies.

How lovely, enjoy your much-needed break. Being near water always lifts my spirits. I love the story of your grandmother, what a wonderful gift.

Thank you, everyone! Shir, it was my grandma who taught me the joy of walking! At 70 she was still walking the beach for miles. And I don't mean ambling! She could stride along! She did formal "volksmarch" walks and collected the pins! 😁 She was a determined, amazing woman who had the hardest start in life. She was abandoned by her father when her mother died... Left in an orphanage but not allowed to be adopted. She was shipped off at 14 to the coast here to be a live in maid for a wealthy family who were part of the timber industry. She had a bunch of kids and then opened her home to countless other kids through foster care. She was "woman of the year" for Lincoln city for all her involvement helping others. Today I miss her so much. ❤️
