Feeling worse than any virus I’ve had before so tested and YUP, caught it. Will still be counting cals but my macros aren’t ideal. Pic of the awesome Weird Al concert where I probably caught this (from the row of guys who refused to wear masks behind us).

@daphne YES, he is such a talented musician and joyful entertainer. There are 133 stops on this tour and he is doing a different set list for every single one!

Getting to see Weird Al might have been worth it. I sure hope you feel better soon!

No! Never worth it. The potential for long Covid with its myriad of serious repercussions is there regardless of how mild the case is. Omicron 2 is here. Don’t drop your guard just yet. If you are going to go to crowded places at least wear the best masks available— either an N95 or at least a KN95.

take care of your covid, and feel better soon

Thanks Roxanne and Sugarplum, I’m hoping I get lucky and this resolves soon. My husband had a mild case over winter but it had had serious impacts on his health; trying not to let myself worry too much as this plays out.

Watch your carbs/refined sugar. Blood sugar spikes fuel the cytokine storm/inflamation (which determines how sick you get, and the potential after-effects). If you can, walk. Walking/exercise will help "shift" mucos and keep it from settling. Short bursts are fine, nothing crazy. Breathing exercises also help keep your airways open - there are good videos on YouTube. Sleep propped-up if you can. There are supplements you can take if you are open to it. This is all advice given to me from my EXCELLENT Dr. when I had it in November. I was pretty sick for about two weeks, but it never got into my lungs/affected my breathing (just fever and fatigue). Once I was better, I was able to return to my normal exercise without any hang-ups. Just took about a week or two to get my stamina back. The severity of the illness is directly related to your health going in. You got this. You're gonna be okay. Keep us posted.

And Weird Al is the best!! He's so goofy and wholesome. I am glad you got to see him.

Cupcake_D— no bubble for me. I’m out and about and have been this whole time out of necessity. I lost a total of 18 friends and acquaintances to this virus. I follow what is happening very closely and take the necessary precautions. My sister and a couple others that I know (young people) all have long Covid and wish they had died. Severe, progressive heart damage a year post infection.. so far I’m good and planning to do my best to stay that way. I go to a play every week and just wear a good quality mask.

You always dispense the BEST advice Allegra, thank you! I definitely want to keep it out of my lungs if at all possible.

Allegra40– the variant of Covid that affected the lungs the most and which killed so many people in the beginning is not really the hallmark of Omicron 1 and 2. We are seeing insidious heart damage from Omicron 1 and now Omicron 2 is here. We’ll see what all it might bring. Meantime masking (with a quality mask) when going into crowded place (Walmart on a Sunday) is still an easy precaution to take. In my area of the world we are at what seems to be a 50/50. Half mask, the other half don’t. So far I’m good as is my BF who works with the public everyday in an enclosed space. Taking it day by day.

@kenna I agree!

I had "Omicron 1." I put that in quotes because there is no way to distinguish the variants, just a timeline. The mechanism for heart and lung damage is essentially the same - cytokine-induced hyper-inflammation run amuck, just in different tissues. Control/manage/mitigate the inflammation, control/manage/mitigate the damage. My Dr. put me on a baby aspirin regimen (heart protective anti-inflammatory), and advised high dose vitamin D, vitamin A, vitamin C, Zinc (critical for stopping viral replication), quercetin/bromelain, curcumins (high phytosome), and reduced Glutathione (lipsomal). Regardless of the variant, the severity of the disease has a high correlation to low vitamin D levels, so he also told me to go sit in the sun several times a day. Just putting this out there for whoever needs it :)).

This was all in addition to the instructions for care (as outlined above.)

Allegra40. — so many small things we can do to help our bodies keep their immunity up. Definitely zinc, vitamin D. Good posts

Technically science can test for one variant VS another, but certainly not cost effective for everyday use. That’s how we know there is a Delta, Omicron 1 and Omicron 2. But unless there is a practical use for knowing the exact variant, such as a treatment difference, the test is not used on the public routinely.

Well, I am vaccinated and boosted and wear a N95 mask as needed. I am 66 years old. 90 percent of seniors are fully vaccinated. 70 percent are also boosted. The more people are vaccinated, less covid will be spread to others. It isn't just about you. As a senior, if I do get covid it is less likely that I will be in the hospital and die because I am vaccinated. I live in an area with lots of vaccinated seniors. We have been credited for creating an environment of lower rates of covid by the health department in our area. But as many people say, your choice. We must balance individual freedoms with the responsibilities of our community.
