Just finished my 5K! I got a time of 26:44 and got 2nd in my age group! Nowhere near the 8 min mile I wanted, but the course was a little hilly and as usual I started out way too fast (first mile was 7:44). I'm both excited but disappointed. I feel tired and I know I couldn't have put anything more into it, but comparing to my time in Feb it's almost a minute slower. I've been training so I feel like I should've been faster, even with the hills.

I started looking into some non running exercises I can do to help with my running. If anyone knows of any specific running focused strength training, I'd love recommendations. ❤

Next race is a half in 4 weeks! That one is definitely gonna kick my but 😂

I enjoy running until it starts hurting. Mostly in my hips.

I'm with Allegra: Squats. Deadlifts. The stronger the muscle, the more power. The additional weight will be nominal compared to sport performance. If you're near a gym with a weighted push sled (the things you see football players slamming into and pushing down the field during training exercises), that would be a functional way to train. In a pinch, put your car in neutral and push it up a hill 😜

love2educate, that's awesome you like it! Not so awesome for your hips 😬 have you talked to a Dr or physical therapist about it?

Don't tackle into it 😂. Leave that to the linebackers. You'd just put some weights on it and start pushing with your arms out in front of you.

Sounds like you did great. Hope you find the exercises you want.

Push sleds are great! Also, run with a weight vest - only need 10-20 pounds. Speed payoff is huge!!

I still say have someone steer while you push the car (in neutral) down the street. When you're all sore and worn out, you've got a free ride home 😂

Hey Ash, As you may know, golf is a FUN yet challenging with extremely high maintenance on regiment/skills (both power & finesse& touch) that requires a tremendous sacrifice on practice time. I try to practice almost everyday & play around every week. You should try! Be sure to Watch US women’s Open this week.. I like their fashion statement too ⛳️😁✅🏃🏽‍♂️🏌🏾‍♂️🏌️

Tim, we can say you coaches aspiring professional athletes 😉 I've seen a few mentions of doing hill repeats, and while that sounds terrible it has to be effective. I'll see if I can find a good hill around here! I've never heard of pyramids! Is that like a 200, 400, 800, 400, 200? I also like the arm pumping, I think it does help if you can muster the energy to do it 😆 I also agree with a taper! Though I don't understand what is a good taper for what kind of race. Everyone here has given me a lot of info to look into! Thank you, Tim! 😊

I like the name update, Matt! You practice every day? Wow, I'm glad you found something you enjoy! I don't mind playing at top golf every once in awhile, it's great for getting out some frustration 😁

LoL ... whose head/s do you imagine hitting to let out the frustration? Nevermind, you can keep it in your personal journal hahaha
