Ugh! I just lost 6 pounds, stopped exercising and started eating what I wanted again and it's back. Up and down and up and down. May of 2010 my goal was 250, the closest I've come is 253. What the heck! How in the world do I get out of this rut?!?

You need to set yourself a clear goal. What do you want? WHY do you want it? You need to constantly remind yourself what you want. It's not effortless - I find that you REALLY have to want it. A certain weight, a certain look - be able to fit in clothes at 'normal' stores. Don't give up. Everyone can do it, when they have the correct mindset. Just dig deep. You can do it!
