The dreaded lunges… I do walking lunges and step backs. Step back lunges are a bit easier on your knees, if you have knee problems. Nice post…👍🏻

Diana I would have to agree with you that this illustration the upper body is slightly leaning forward and I know the trainer has us focus on shoulders back and not rounding our back. I am always so focused on listening and doing my work that I now want to watch others to see how they look from the side!! I do Lat pull downs between the lunge sets and it is all I can do to walk over to the machine! How do your legs feel after doing them?

Sharon- My husband is 5'10 and balance is hard - one time he actually fell over doing the lunges. I started out just body weight and they would have you go to plates or mats on the floor. I did that for a long time because I was so shaky with the arthritis in my knee.

I'm still in recovery mode but I did ok. I did leg presses, hamstring curls, squats, and after each set I did lunges for a minute. 3 sets of 16 reps on each movement. My trainer was trying to ease me back in...🤪💪

Kennyn27 - I have seen another gal my age that works out the same time I do with our same trainer and he has her do step backs. She has told me they are a lot easier but I get to take a 30 second to 1 minute break between legs. On the step back she doesn't get to because she is alternating legs. I am still a newbie so love learning about what everyone is doing!

Diana that is great! That is a crazy workout but you did it. I love it because I feel like we all feed off each other no matter where we are at in our journey.

I just did walking lunges at the gym yesterday. It was my first time in a month doing lower body. The doc said I could do body weight lunges, but I added 20 lbs dumbbells. Today when I woke up, my glutes are so sore like I been deadlifting. I only did 2 sets of 8.

SharonEsq - start out and just do body weight for awhile before adding weights. I am 5'9 and I get what you say about balance. I really have to focus on setting my stride and preparing for the lunges. I then focus on something on the wall and push thru them. I am hoping to progress to the safety bar at some point becasue I don't think the trainer will make me hold 50# dumbbells. That is too hard on my hands.

HCB - I know when I first start out my knees are complaining but once I get going, I feel better. Anytime I have an ache I let the trainer know but fortunately lately I have been good. Just sore which that doesn't count!

It looks like if I hold on to the dresser or a counter, I can feel more secure and build strength. I'll have to work on balance also then I can hopefully start holding weights. "Focus ... and push through", thanks for that.
