Those of you who know me know I banged up my right rotator cuff in October and was sick all of December to the point that even walks were too exhausting for me. In hindsight, I'm wondering if I had undiagnosed Covid, although you would think my husband would have caught it if I did.

I had plenty of strength in that shoulder yesterday, but yowza, three hours of cross country skiing made it pretty unhappy with me. The aching in my shoulder and upper arm made it a little difficult to sleep. So today, I'm being a little gentler with it. Doing PT exercises, but skipped the resistance band on the scap squeezes and will switch to lower resistance bands for the strengthening exercises that use them. No push-ups or other upper body work today.

I try to encourage rather than tell people what to do. I'd really like to encourage folks to back off if you need to if your body needs to heal. There is no Red Badge of Courage for working out with strep throat or making an injury worse.

Maybe I'm rationalizing, but I have no doubt I would have been sicker longer had I been more "dedicated " and "disciplined. " At this point with the shoulder, I do need to work through some soreness, but for the first few weeks, it was not an option.

Only you can determine what your body needs...but please do listen to it. You are not a slacker if you rest or scale back because you truly need to heal. Do what you can, but don't do further damage to yourself ❤️

I always listen to my body. I have had R.A. since I was 38 and am doing well with it.

So true: you don't get a reward for hurting your body. It's taken me years of trial and error to figure out that mind over matter is BS: my body actively blows up when I feed it dairy, I can't deadlift over a certain weight or it hurts my spine and I get sciatica, and I have to stretch cold muscles or they will strain & sprain. So I follow the Taoism school of thought and just go with the harmony & flow of my body.

Agree!! It is hard to not want to go to the gym but if I have something contagious, I don't want others to get it. Also, the trainer told us the other day that our bodies are actually compromised for a short period after a training session and our immune system is a little vulnerable but overall, he wants us there if we are just fighting a basic cold.

Your last paragraph is so true! Always listen to your body. My heart doctor tells me that every time I see him. He is amazed at my level of fitness since I do have heart issues but tells me to keep it up until my body tells me different. As to the Covid question...my husband had Covid and we didn't know it till 5 days in. I took care of him, slept with him, etc during that time and was at that time not vaccinated. I thought for sure I had it but maybe was asymptomatic. I tested and was negative. It was the sickest I've ever seen my husband but he never got the chest congestion, which is why we didn't think he had it. When I couldn't get his fever to go away and he lost his sense of taste is when I knew he had it . Just do what you can and take care!💜

Diana - what do you have for heart issues? I think you have mentioned that before but I either don't remember if I asked or not! LOL I see a heart doctor too. I have a mildly ascended aorta that they keep an eye on. When I go in they tell me that I am very fit for my age and very rarely see anyone come in that is not on any meds and fit.

We all had COVID back in 2021 it was not a bad flu, was not even in the top ten for me. Trouble sleeping, NO trouble breathing at all, no chest cold; only coughing was after a week and not bad, I would not call it a cold. Me and my daughter it took month an half to not feel exhausted and months after to feel like normal but me and her are stamina type of people 3-4 hours of work without stopping is normal. That, stamina and loosing sense of smell were the big ones.
