It's that time again already: Booster.💉🧑🏻‍⚕️

My last Omicron bivalent shot was early September 2022 to protect me over the holidays in crowded stores and while visiting my brother for Thanksgiving. This latest one will be for a trip I'm going on in 3 weeks. Every instance I've heard of getting Covid appears to happen following a vacation or from getting it from unvaccinated, school-aged infected children.

So like all the other shots, today I'm getting in a big workout just prior to the appointment and pounding the water. Had a mango for breakfast and lunch will be a big Thai cucumber salad (2 seeded cucumbers, shredded carrots, red onion, peanuts, sliced jalapeños, cilantro and a dressing made of rice vinegar with lime juice and a pinch of sugar).

Have a healthy day, Everyone!👁️🏆

@Super: The US didn't release the J&J until May of 2022. They held the first batch purchased in 2021 because of the European reports. Only the Moderna and Pfizer were available until 8 months ago.

And yes they were giving out vax even before the fda approval. And the fda was pressured to approve after. They approve it with special conditions even.

Jb that was a silly reply to my question. You know darn well what I was asking.....you are anti prescription meds because of any perceived health risks and you are also anti big pharma. You also perceive drs as drug pushers. I am also checking out of this string of comments.

But anyways I’m with otb on this lol get it or not. It’s up to you. Do your own research. And just cuz you are vaccinated doesn’t mean you’re better. Supergainz OUT!

@Super: is your friend female and over the age of 50? If she wasn't diagnosed with the clots, how does she know she had them? They're painful and you can die, so why wouldn't she go to the hospital or her doctor? Does she fit into any of the other typical risk categories that I referenced? Yeah, I would ask her (though don't bother if she smokes).

I have no issue getting vax. I will just leave it at that.

@Peppy & Everyone: if the J&J vaccine is repeatedly in the news as the problem, then Get The Pfizer Or Moderna Ones. They're FREE. We are Americans and discerning consumers, we have a free market with choices available, so shop accordingly!

supergainz I'm with you 🙌 the only people i know that have had to visit the hospital while covid positive, have gotten the shots. 🤷‍♀️ make it make sense.

The shots are only good for 5-6 months everyone. Just like immunity from getting Covid only lasts about 3 months. And the J&J is not nearly as effective as Pfizer and Moderna. So there's the sense, @Kaylinrenee. You have to stay on top of your health, and quit letting expiration dates pass.

How many shots total? It is confusing. The original vaccine I got in February 2021 and the 2nd was in March. Since then I've had 3 boosters, the last one in September. My doctor hadn't said anything about getting another but I know the vaccine loses effectiveness after 4 or 5 months. I did ask my doctor about getting treatment if I get Covid. He said he usually recommends taking zinc and vitamin D. He said I am not high risk. I told him I had heard that an obese person who gets Covid is 10 times more likely to die than someone who is not obese. He didn't disagree and just said to keep !owing weight.

As someone who has spent countless hours disseminating researched, validated COVID-19 information for a premier medical institution in the US, some of these comments are disheartening. Reliable info is readily available from so many trusted sources, why are people still playing Couch Epidemiologist? 😭😭😭

caught in a bad romance. ohohohohohohohohohohohohohoh

@Fritzy: you just have to keep getting the booster every 5 months, just like you should get the flu shot every year. It’s not really a case of how many. Covid keeps changing and it’s definitely keeping the drug companies busy creating more for the latest strain.

Covid vaccination, a controversial topic indeed. JB forgive me if I hijack your thread with another, possibly even more controversial topic. Radishes. When eating whole, should you or shouldn’t you cut off the green bit and the ‘tail’? When cutting up for a salad, same question, do you include the green top and tail? I say you always include the green top. The tail can be thrown away for the salad but eaten when the radish is eaten whole. I am impressed with the civility here on FS.

🤣 @Manatee: I have the moderators delete any religious comments or cussing content. I only eat slices of the red ball part of the radishes, but I do toss the rest of the plant in a big pot when making vegetable stock (along with carrot shavings and the inedible tops of leeks and celery).

Everyone - thank you for all the comments concerning yourself, family and friends as I appreciate the different outcomes negative or positive that have happened over the last couple of years. That is the only true way to move forward. For example I advocated at the capital in our state because at one time women were not given all the knowledge to make an informed decision on mammogram results. Due to women speaking out about the issues and negative things that can happen to certain women, things have changed for all of us and now we are better educated and screened but it took people speaking out against something mainstream. So again, I appreciate all the words spoken in the thread on personal experience.

I didn’t know we could set up content moderating, that’s cool. I just figured everyone was always so polite and realized we all have differing opinions and different reactions to foods and medicines. Some people can eat radishes and some are allergic to them, neither is better than the other. Same with meds, some people have more of a reaction to a med than others do, it’s just how the body works and reacts. Glad to hear you use the good part for a salad. And to clarify, I’m not talking about all the greens, the green top after you pick the radish from the bunch. Which brings up another extremely controversial topic, how long should that green top be? 🤔

Sorry you make a vegetable stock not a salad with the tops and leeks etc.
