Very true. I read an article awhile ago. It talks about how strength training keeps your body’s repair mechanisms intact by constantly and consistently rebuilding tissues that it preserves the blue print of your dna structures better as you age

Supergainz- did that article talk about how older males in their 70’s strength trained and their DNA or muscle looked like someone years younger? Maybe you posted it or my trainer did but it was amazing the results any age got from weight lifting.

Morticia I am a believer in what he says. He lives and breathes what he trains and also works with his parents.

It always amazes me that despite this well researched and studied fact, many will not exercise at all. I have a friend who complies fully with every prescription she gets for her various issues but will not do regular walking or very basic strength for more than once. It's like she doesn't believe and doesn't see or feel immediate results so how good could it really be or something.

I think that there is so much information out there with different diet and exercise guides that a lot of people get overwhelmed. They might start one diet or exercise routine but the results don't come quickly so they quit or switch to a new program. It takes time.
Everyone needs to get off of the sofa and walk. Walking daily will not only help you lose weight, it will also improve how you feel. Once you have mastered walking again, add in some strength training.

Sharon - that is how I got started strength training. I was overweight for the upteen time in my life but being older he said you are pre-diabetic, going to put you on blood pressure and cholesterol meds if you don't do something about it. This time you need to do something that makes you sweat. I did a testimonial for the gym and said this is my medicine. I am so glad I finally found something that works for me.

TheUnhealthyDaddy-so true there is a lot out there. I think that is why I find the program I am falling easy because basically he wants me to hit my 120 grams of protein a day and stay away from processed foods if I can. I have tried diets that did not let you have fruit and that was not sustainable for me. I know everyone has to find what works for them but hopefully everyone talking about it helps one person find a way.

So true, coming up on 70 and 45% of my HS graduation class is dead. I have weight trained since 16.

Mike that is awesome you have weight lifted since 16!! When I was in HS that was not an option for girls. That is a motivator to keep doing what you are doing with that many of your classmates gone!
