Sometimes I wonder why I keep attempting to lose weight. It seems really pointless to keep losing and gaining over and over. I have never been able to find that sweet spot that I can maintain indefinitely. Lifestyle change, what does that even mean.... for me it means a perpetual diet. My appetite does not match my metabolism. There's only so much exercising I have the energy to do at my age. Unless you are a female over 65 and under 5' you have no idea how few calories that translates to. Yet here I am, willing to make another attempt. SIGH......

I have been off and on for years and then COVID hit and I was determined to lose weight and keep it off! One thing I could control. I will be 64 this July and I lost 40 lbs over that 2 year period and kept it off. I believe I just needed to continue to eat healthy and workout everyday. Find what works for you and don't give up!!

have tried holding fat intake to 20 - 25% and allow carbs and protein to raise in % a little along with 5 - 6 meals at no more than 300 cals per meal 300. It works for me and not staving all the time. Also a more whole food approach helps.

Just a thought!! If you are on any meds, research and make sure none of them cause weight gain. That’s a lot of my patients frustration. Then when we review there meds, they realize that weight gain is a lot of where the weight gain is coming from. One that I can tell you for sure is Zoloft. It is notorious for weight gain. You lose lose and then gain gain and it’s a vicious cycle .. you got this!! And fast intermittently to shrink your stomach. I know how real the struggle is!!

Keep hanging in there, one day at a time. I'm 80, and 5 foot tall. If I keep at it, I can lose about 1 pound in two weeks. I walk when the weather is godd and when I can't walk, I do arm exercises with weights while I watch the news. It is slow progress at this age, but it can be done by staying persistent. You can do this!!

This weight maintenance is a mindset issue. When I mentor people on this journey the first thing that I do is urge them to remove the word diet from their vocabulary. You are not dieting. You are building a lifestyle and a way of eating that you can live with. That involves eating things that are better, healthier for you most of the time and eating some of the delicious things we all love, that might not be the healthiest stuff, just once in a while. Learning to accept portion control rather than “all or nothing”. Few people can last on an eating plan that is supper restrictive— deprivation does not work. Guilt does not work, self recrimination does not work. And, in addition to portion control and moderation you have to increase physical activity. That does not mean selling your house and moving into the gym. It means walk, play golf, dance, whatever floats your boat and get your friends and family involved. Socialization makes the time go so much faster. You can do this and make it work. Just work on the mindset— that is #1. And, restaurants are not your friend.

Hey, I'm about to be 67 on the 15th and I'm 4'11"!! LOL It is hard for me, too, yet I'm still in there. I'm going out for seafood tomorrow.

ood evening.Sorry for my English in advance)I am 47 years old, with a height of 165 cm I weighed 85 kg, now 60 kg.I keep the weight for a long time, there are no restrictions and diets, I'm on hormone therapy. There is one thing-maintenance and improvement, habits are difficult to change in one day, but it is possible, but scolding yourself for minor flaws is stupid.Only by making friends with a head can you understand what and how you eat.And you can, I'm sure!

Jenna and AH12 are telling you truth. And to answer your question a lifestyle change is not doing what you did in your past. For example eating without control. For example I’m not going to smoke cigarettes anymore. Everyone here looses and gains weight for EXACTLY the same reason. You are no different. YOU can do this if YOU want. When you feel hungry and don’t eat you will know you have taken a step in the right direction. ✌️

If you haven’t had a full physical in a while I would recommend a physical with a complete review of medications as a number of meds we take as we age can affect appetite, weight and how each individual feels. For example I found that one medication I was taking was increasing my chronic fatigue and it took a change of Doctor to an NP and a complete review to catch and adjust. I still deal with a lot of fatigue due to autoimmune disease but little things do help. Good luck with your journey. There are wonderful people here and you might consider other support groups like over eaters anonymous who helps those who feel hungry all the time or over eat for a variety of other reasons. You might identify factors that affect your hunger levels. I have a friend who found their support very helpful and identify other ways to help manager her hunger.

I had the same issue until I stumbled across intermittent fasting. So after dinner, I don’t need again until lunchtime the next day, except for coffee in the morning with creamer. It is the only thing that has worked for me and I am 55 years old. I’ve tried everything and nothing works, and nothing lasts except this and yes, I have already gone through menopause so I can relate.

Thanks, to all who took the time to respond. I was definitely feeling sorry for myself. Lol I understand all the points people are making, I'm just lamenting the fact that I have a big appetite and a small window of calories in order to be in a deficit.

You can do it. Many of us (including me) have issues that make weight loss more difficult. So never give up is my motto

I’ve said it here many time too after finding out myself while doing a low carb thing, a Tblsp of healthy oils like olive, coconut, or even veggie oil does wonders to curb hunger and keep one feeling satiated for a longer period of time between meals. About 100 calories per…

65.5 yoa. Been a "chubby" my entire life and have struggled keeping extra weight off. Tried every dang 'diet' that came along over the years too. I tried Atkins in the 70's but I guess back then (and until 3yrs ago), I did not have the determination to make a real honest lifestyle change. 2020 came along with a pandemic and I became VERY serious about ensuring that I did not get sick (or too danged bored! lol) and haven't even had a sniffle since. I began a lazy kind of low carb diet knowing it would take time and effort to undo all the years of poor choices. It has been just over 3 years and this time I chose a n eating lifestyle that has stuck and does not seem restrictive at all. I also quit smoking cigs in 2020 and have lost approx. 35 lbs. along the way that I've not gained back. I typically eat only 1 meal a day now. I do not crave sweets and am rarely hungry either. This change did not happen over night though. I really had to work through quitting sugar and products containing sugars. I tried also to think I could cheat and find a way to still have my sweetened creamy coffee. Nope... I now have found a coffee that I enjoy just black. Never ever thought I'd say that. It really was a mindset switch for me though... I kept telling myself that I CAN do this. And... now I have :) You can too!!!
