So I did see the orthopedist about my shoulder, as I have lingering issues. He seemed to think the problem was in my neck. I was supposed to go for an MRI this morning and follow up with him tomorrow, but I canceled. I've also decided to discontinue PT. Honestly, it keeps getting better and better, and it's not so bad that I can justify the medical bills. I think it just needs time, so I'm going to give it 2 or 3 months. Saturday, I skied with barely any discomfort. I intentionally tried to aggravate it Sunday with push-ups, weights, and pickleball, with so little consequence. I did manage to get it to flare yesterday with a second day of working my upper body, but nothing a little heat didn't relieve.

Hearing that my neck might be a problem isn't exactly breaking news. I have slight scoliosis and I injured it skiing 30 years ago. I've had problems off and on.

Plus, I've had two cervical MRIs over the years, and neither turned out because they said I moved too much even though I was doing my best to stay still. The thought of the expense for another useless one I couldn't deal with.

It'll slow down the strength training a bit, but that's ok. I'll give it time, do the home exercises, and rest it as needed. If it's problematic to the point I feel I need to go back, I can do that later.

After dealing with spine and sciatic issues last year, I’ve found that stretching in bed before getting up has prevented injuries (legs, back, neck, hips). It only takes a few minutes and I don’t even have to surrender the covers 🫠. Do you have a neck brace in case you tweak that area again?

Thanks, Morticia 😊 I figure it'll just take some time. It's totally functional and doesn't bother me all that much, so I'm mostly there. Just not quite 100% yet

JustBananas -- yeah, I need to stretch more. I sleep on the couch, so a little tough to stretch there, but I do like to put on a podcast or video and stretch in the living room after I wake up. Just need to be consistent. My neck is nowhere near bad enough to need a brace, thank goodness. Fingers crossed it'll never reach that point! 🤞

So sorry you're having neck pain. I sympathize. I've had 2 cervical fusions when it was so bad people sitting near me could hear sounds when I'd turn my head. Those surgeries were no joke. You can definitely be experiencing pain in neck, upper back , shoulder, arm and overworked muscles. As long as you're able to stay active most days and manage pain with heat I think you're absolutely doing best thing. Avoid neck brace at all costs. A good pillow to keep neck in alignment is priceless. Neurosurgeon didn't want me to wear one before or after surgery. I also hope you can sleep in a bed soon.🙏❣️

Ouch, 2melons! I'm so sorry you went through that 😥 I hope the surgeries helped and that you are in good health 🤗 I'm fortunate mine has never risen to that level. Have had some PT in the past, but no surgeries. As for the couch...that's just my own bad habit. I fall asleep early watching TV, and I've just sort of gotten used to it. It's not due to any discomfort sleeping in a bed, and I swear my husband hasn't kicked me to the curb 😂
