Finally got the wife to do weights with me today. Her biometrics were done yesterday. 5'6" 126.2lbs 22.8% bodyfat. Time to build some muscle!

Cheese, she knows how much I put into it just to gain a few pounds. And it would take hard work to obtain glutes like yours. I just want her to be able to eat more so she's not miserable. 😄

Nice!! Good for her and that you get to workout together. My husband and I train together at the gym and it is fun to share our PB and our aches and pains! LOL

I think it's great you are working out with your wife! I met my husband at the gym almost 40 years ago! He doesn't go now ..he says he is done with that part of his life. Man he was buff when I met him..he is still active cuz he is very handy and mechanical so he is always working on something. I do miss going to gym with him though! Maybe I'll try to get him there again..💪

Thanks, guys! It is nice to have a spouse to workout and be active with. She and I have always liked to hike and try to stay active in the warm months. It's those cold months that give us some problems. She's such a nice person, and I hate to see her dieting at 1200 calories. Going that low can make the nicest person hangry after a while. My goal is to get her close to 2k calories. We will be doing weights and fun activities like rock climbing to mix it up.

Does she like lifting weights in a gym? My exH and I were very active outside (skiing, bike riding, canoeing, hiking, plus dancing on date nights), so when we joined a gym, it was a bit of a letdown (i.e. boring) by comparison. In case she puts on the brakes, there are a lot of classes that she may find fun that use body weight and dumbbells -- some to music.

JB, at this point, she doesn't enjoy doing weights at the gym unless she is with me. She's just at that uncomfortable stage of not knowing all of the machines or workouts. And she doesn't like going when it is packed (that's 80% of the time around here). We shall see how it goes.

Cindy brings up a good point. Those kinds of classes really focuses on calorie burning. And at that bodyweight if she’s losing more fat tissues without building much lean mass to replace it she’ll have to eat even less. The concentration should be on muscle building. That being said it’s still up to her what she enjoys. But if her goal is to be able to ingest more calories then muscle building ftw

Cindy, it is high BF. I've said it before, she is skinny fat. She holds the fat the opposite as me. She has small waist, but at least an inch of fat on tricep and calves. And still holding a little on upper/inner thighs and ass. I'll have to do calipers again since her screening had her at 97lbs lean mass, but I had her at closer to 90lbs 6 months ago. And she hasn't built muscle since. BTW, I'm not being mean about saying she is skinny fat or has fat in arms and legs. I think she is beautiful and looks very good naked. And I'm not expecting her nor wanting her to have shredded arms and calves like me. She wants the leaner look, not lighter at this point. She wants to be stronger and to be able to enjoy food without ruining her entire week. I'd like to get her up to 135lbs with some decrease in BF. That might take 2years but she will feel amazing.

Cheese, I totally agree. I explained that the quickest way to build muscle is compound lifts that target the largest muscle groups. She says "I don't care about my back. I can't see it." I replied "well, I see it quite frequently." 😁 Clearly, I have some work to do. She needs a better understanding of how to build muscle and not to worry about targeting smaller muscles at this beginner stage. I do have the challenge of a man training a woman. She still might lean on the "you're a guy and I can't do those things." That is false. Men & women don't know how to push themselves in the beginning. It takes time and a lot of practice to learn mind muscle connection and reach true failure. *It's also a challenge to get her to hit 100g of protein.

She just came up to me and flexed her arms. We did biceps and triceps yesterday and she likes the DOMS. She's asking what we are working on tomorrow. Lol I guess that's a good sign.

Cheese, 2k calories would please her. My main concern about upping the calories and having her eat more things is she doesn't log them. She's been doing 1200 daily and knows this because we calculated what she could eat, and she ate that same food every day for almost 2 months now. So with more calories and a larger variety of food, she's going to need to log it. If not, it might go south quickly.

i love that you do so much together, healthy and active! ive never had that and it definitely made being healthy, really hard. im sure she will love it, especially when she starts seeing results!

I think I'll just have to add up the calories to see what fits the macros. I'll try to convince her to do 1 chicken and 1 fish meal a day. She should be able to fit in a sauce now so it isn't so bland.
