I'm so frustrated. I measured my biceps, abdomen, hips, thigh, calves and forearms. My measurements haven't changed much from March. My forearms are 1/2 inch bigger, which is progress. My abdomen measurement always fluctuates, but I'm bloated a lot and have loose skin. My calves lost about 3/4 inches. My thighs are 3/4 inches bigger. My Trainor said she noticed my hamstrings are bigger, but why are not the measurements of muscle getting bigger. I'm trying to not get too frustrated, because it could be me losing fat then gaining muscle in its place, but when I look in the mirror I can't tell. My measurements are not very different from almost a year ago. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I try to eat up to 2700 calories, but most times I can only eat 2400 or 2500 something and I keep my protein high. 😭😭

dont get too hung up on it. are you gaining strength? muscle is denser than fat so your measurments will be smaller I'd you lost equal fat pounds as you gained muscle pounds. keep up the good work 😁

I would buy some goal jeans and use those as my official measurement tool instead. Measuring tape is good for the waist though. Gotta get that under 31.5 inches for optimal heart health ❤️‍🩹

Thank y'all. Some days I feel stronger and some days I don't. My waist measures 29 1/4 in, which is only down an inch since March. I'm going to measure my abdomen tomorrow when I wake up.

Are you bulking? If you are able to lift more without using momentum to compensate then that is a good measure of muscle growth. Albeit if your carbs is steady day to day. Fluctuations in carbs will be fluctuations in energy. High carbs, high proteins, low fat. 200-300 surplus til you outgrow that surplus. And remember it takes time, rest is just as important as training..... enjoy the process!

Thanks supergainz. I'm trying to bulk. I put my calories to 2700, but most days it's hard to hit that. I usually eat 200-300 something grams in carbs, but there are days when that fluctuates.

Don’t force yourself to eat, I did better when I stopped forcing myself. The hunger will rise, play with your carbs to see performance improvements, adjust your proteins as needed for recovery

Thanks supergainz1, I'll try that, because I do force myself to eat, especially eating dinner after work and trying to get my calories in then my stomach ends up hurting

I am wondering if you're focusing on the wrong things. Are your weights increasing? Are you gaining power and strength?

Try taking some of the carbs. out. More protein which helps build muscle.

Bubbles McBubbles, my weights increase some days and other days I don't feel as strong. I know sleep and stress play a role, which I have trouble sleeping and my stress is high, which is one of the reasons I'm trying to find another job to help reduce some of my stress

Sorry you are suffering RN! I like to tell myself that every day I stay the same is a win because it consolidates whatever paltry gains I've made. Staying the same is an achievement. Have you ever heard of callanetics? About low weight reps to exhaustion (maybe 100 reps) to exhaust the muscles all the way from the tendons to the centre of the muscle. I used to do it when young. Mind you - it did leave me with smallish muscles. probably not your thing...

Thank you for reminding me to measure. The measurement thing is a bit of a mystery to me. I don't ever know how to interpret it.
