I finally got my skinny 15 year old boy to the gym. It was fun. He is weak and his form is horrendous, but that will improve. I showed him how to do stuff and to focus on the intended muscles.
He is 5'10 and weighed 109lbs yesterday! The boy needs to eat. Working out next to him made me look like a men's classic physique bodybuilder. 😄

That’s a great father-son activity! Puberty is such a calorie burner.

Back & biceps today. He has some strength in his arms, but really needs to work the back.

Yep, I produce skinny children. All 4 were underweight. My 17 year old daughter finally gained some and is at a nice size now. My 7 & 9 year olds are 43lbs & 45lbs. I was a skinny child as well, but never as skinny as my son (I was 132lbs at his height).
I try to push him to eat. He gets upset when we talk about his weight. He wants to gain, but he doesn't like steak, beef, cheese, only chicken and veggie burgers (and junk food). I'm concerned that he doesn't eat enough for the demands of his puberty and it could affect his overall growth.

When I was a kid, I had very little interest in gyms. If there are any athletic activities that he likes, doing exercises that help him be better at that sport may help keep him motivated in the gym. Looking good for girls may also be a motivator at that age. I didn't learn to love the gym until I got into my 50s, and I started playing competitive sports.

If your son doesn’t eat red meat or cheese, it may be because his body struggles to digest such heavy, dense food. Sounds like you have lots of chicken available anyway. Can you get him to eat cruciferous vegetables (spinach, broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, etc.)? Is there a big fruit bowl out for everyone, or are you storing junk food? If it’s not in the house, he’s more likely to eat the fruit.

We always have the common fruits (bananas, apples, oranges), but no bowls of fruit out. I would love to eliminate most of the junk food. Unfortunately, my 3rd child is picky and has some growth problems. 52" and 45lbs at 10 years old in 2 weeks. The Children's physician and I agree that she needs to eat whatever she will eat. That causes us to by some crap food that all of the kids eat.
My son stopped eating steak and ground beef after his step-father served bloody steak. He is just grossed out by it. I'm not exactly sure what happened with the cheese. He loved pizza when he was younger. He also still eats ice cream and enjoys milkshakes without any digestive issues.
