Breakfast— 669 calories — a little higher than I thought. Tomorrow I will cut back to 1/4 cup oatmeal and maybe a berry instead of banana. It was all delicious though and I’m glad I put in the effort.

Looks scrumptious! If I eat banana, I do 1/2 or 1/4. I’ve heard some people say a higher calorie breakfast v. Lunch or dinner leads to less snacking. A fuller feeling for longer.

Thank you everyone! I do love bananas. That was the first time I tried it in oatmeal and it made the oatmeal more tolerable without sugars. The meal did hold me over for a few hours with no snacking; but when I got hungry for lunch it was immediate.

@EmzyCat…a nutritionist I watch says when trying to keep insulin from spiking to avoid oatmeal or bananas in the morning. Cuz after it spikes, it falls drastically which causes hunger. She promotes proteins and healthy fats for breakfast only. I find when I’m teaching, I NEED some carbs for breakfast though because of all the energy exerted so, I may add 1/4 sweet potato or 1/4 apple or 1/4 banana w a meat and fat source. But I steer clear of instant oatmeal due to my diabetes 2.

@Stormsgirl — that makes sense as to why I was so hungry out of no where. I didn’t know oatmeal and bananas could spike your blood sugar like that. I don’t eat instant oatmeal either due to all the sugar. The oatmeal I made was a whole rolled oats, gluten free, with nothing added to it.

What StormGirl said. I stick to berries only. I eat at least 5 hours apart. This would be because of the insulin. Gives my body time to rest. I am no longer diabetic. My doctor was very surprised.

That is very interesting about the oatmeal. I always said it spikes my blood sugar and my doctor disagrees.

half a banana and half the amount of berries you'd plan go use could be a happy medium for you. Also, if you're worried about blood sugar spiking adding some rinsed, canned, and mashed white beans to the oats before you cook em can add some fiber and help delay the glycemic index of the whole meal

i use oatmeal and i put stevia or monk fruit to sweeten it and nuts which is a protein and some berries or bananas and sausage on the side. Fiber, protein and fats help to slow down the digestion of carbs and delay their absorption into the blood. This helps to prevent spikes in glucose levels after eating.
