Some of it is. Depending on the type usually. I make my own a lot.

Thanks Erika & Morticia ~ I think I'll stop taking Thousand Island & French dressings.. I'd go for high content of Vinaigrette dressings such as Italian.

😊I prepare my own salad dressing with homemade mayonaise, paprika, garlic and dried herbs, salt, pepper...

MattRide I do Italian, Vinaigrette, and recently a Greek dressing due to their lower caloric content. The Greek stuff is only 50 calories per serving. But, let's face it a salad with almost any dressing is healthy eating. I'm just always trying to increase the volume of food for fewer calories, and salad dressing isn't what fills me up.

The bigger issue is the unhealthy industrial seed oils that most commercial dressings use, I avoid these. At home I use high quality olive oil and vinegar. Most seed oils are grown with heavy pesticides and processed with harsh chemicals that we would never willingly ingest. And they are high in Omega 6, that Americans typically get way too much of. BTW this applies to commercially fried foods, too.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer here, but there's been a lot of testing of olive oils, and most of them are mixed with industrial seed oils even when labeled pure olive oil, so be suspicious and buy high quality extra virgin, cold-pressed olive oil.

Erika, Any specific brand that you recommend?

I ended up signing up for an olive oil club, but it's too expensive, so I'm quitting that. I just don't use it much. Now that I'm following a carnivore diet, I eat butter and meat fat for cooking. So, I'm not much help on recommendations, sorry.

Two recommendations: #1: It takes less than 5 minutes to make your own so do it. #2: Dress your salad in a bowl instead of just lopping on and you‘ll use less. 👍

I love salad dressings but the ones I like are all high fat so I mix 1/2 and 1/2 with plain fat free greek yogurt. I even do this with a vinaigrette since I love a creamy dressing that stick to my veggies!

Zany, that’s a great idea! I found a buttermilk-based ranch dressing at Aldi that has only 30 calories per 2 tbs, but it is a bit runny. Mixing it with yogurt would be the perfect way to get that thicker consistency. Plus a great way to add protein to the salad.
