Yes... I've been offline a couple days. Family is visiting from Europe, and while I was trying not to go completely off the rails over the weekend, what actually happened is that I got really sick Sunday night -- horrible nausea and cramps. By 5 am, I knew I had to go to the ER. Sure enough, I was on my way to another bowel obstruction, so now I'm on meds to try to "empty out." There's no real explanation for all this -- I'm eating 21-28 grams of fiber per day, walking 2.5-3.0 miles daily, and drinking 2-3 liters of water. None of this has helped. So I'm going to have to get on some kind of medication regimen to prevent this from happening again. I definitely do not want to do another 4 days in the hospital on an NG tube. It was not fun. Today I tried to eat very carefully, and I will continue to do so. Staying off the scale til 9-30.

NG tubes are painful! I feel for ya! What kind of tests have your doctors done to locate the problem?? I ask because I had similar issues years ago and due to a misdiagnosis I ended up with a colostomy bag and 100 extra pounds.

Kombucha tea is GREAT for your digestive system. It's hard to drink at first but once your body realizes that it is good for it, you kind of start craving it. You will see changes in digestion within a week. WAY better than medication. Also if you don't like that, Apple Cider Vinegar is always a great way to add more bacteria's to your digestive system. With either Kombucha or Apple Cider Vinegar, make sure you buy the good stuff (has floaties in it) OR make your own. Hope that helps. (I am NOT in any way a medical advisor) I just try to stay away from "Medicine"

MeanJolene -- thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I also have early stage kidney disease, so I don't drink anything my nephrologist hasn't suggested. So that means basically I drink water, water with lemon or lime, half lemonade/half soda water, etc. -- you get the idea. I allow myself a decaf non-fat cappuccino once or twice per week, and that's it. At first it was really boring, but now I'm used to is. Next time I see the nephrologist, I'll ask him about apple cider vinegar -- but I suspect it will be a "No." He has me taking sodium bicarb pills twice daily to manage metabolic acidosis -- excess acid in my body that can contribute to worsening kidney disease.
