Bought the loose apples because they were on sale, but I really wish they didn't grow the darned things so big these days. A whole one feels like an overwhelming serving size, so I put the other half of this one in the fridge. I usually buy the bagged ones

This summer I picked apples from abandoned trees around here and they are smaller and so much tastier. And maybe more nutritious?

Aldi’s has serving size apples in several varieties. Sam’s apples are monstrous and I don’t buy apples there.

Bagged apples always seem a better size. Loose bin apples are huge.

I like smaller ones too.

I know what you mean. I was hungry last night and thought just an apple would be good to have but I felt like it was two servings because it was so huge!

Bagged or fresh doesn't really matter. They both have expiration dates on them. But putting them in the fridge doesn't sound like a bad idea

I buy the tiny ones, too. Same reason.

When the honey crisp apples 🍎 are big, I wash them, cut in 12 slices, eat 6 slices or 1/2, then put the other slices w a little lemon 🍋 juice in a container and put it in the fridge for a later serving. The honey crisp apples 🍎 taste like candy 🍬 to me, only with WAY MORE BENEFITS. lol

And I eat the seeds, which contain k12, a cancer fighting mineral.

My mom ♥️ told me to cut the ends because that’s where most of the pesticides build up.

I always save half for later as well. Sometimes 1/4 an apple is plenty. I am hooked on the Envy apples and they are quite big, but sooo good!

Those are good ideas, Stormsgirl!

I don't know if the smaller apples are more nutritious, but fresh picked are wonderful. We got a bumper crop of wee little apples off our little front yard tree this year, and I'm still enjoying homemade apple butter. The giant fruits feel like just one more example of the "portion distortion" of recent decades. I've been eating these 1/2 at a time and putting the other half in the fridge cut-side down in lemon juice until one of us eats it. That said, these suckers are tasty -- Cosmic Crisp and Honeycrisp that were only $1.27 a pound on sale. They were actually cheaper than the bagged, so I had to go for them

I have read but not really checked the research that apples are bread to be sweeter and also because they are picked before they are mature they end up with less nutrients than apples would have had "in the olden days" not sure if that difference is significant ... articles tend to be too sensationalist

liv -- fruits and veggies have, indeed, been bred to transport well and appeal to consumers, not for nutrition. Does it make enough of a difference to matter? Not in my opinion. I'm still getting plenty of good out of those apples. There's a balance I aim for. Yes, I want to prioritize nutrition and food quality. But no, I don't want to get obsessed with it.
