Many thanks to all who replied to my first post yesterday. So I'm back at work today, have a few minutes between projects & I thought I'd tell you a little bit more about myself. I am a 55 year old wife, mother & grandmother who'd like to lose about 15 - 20 lbs. I know that's not much, but when you're 5'2" those extra lbs really show. Okay, I'm pretty vain, too. I was one of those "skinny" people when I was younger, but age and weight have a way of creeping up on you. Anyway, part of my motivation is the fact that my husband is a Type II diabetic that recently went on an insulin pump - and that sucks! I can't really make him do anything about his weight or blood sugar. I plan meals & read up on carbs and such, I even enrolled in a nutrition course at the University I work at - one of the perks here is free tuition for employees, YES!

Funny enough, he's the one who suggested I try Fatsecret after I complained about how hard it was to navigate SparkPeople. He was tracking his food & carbs for awhile at least, don't know if he still is. I have been monitoring my diet a lot closer since my 3rd running injury this year (more on that later), and I'm kind of following the "Biggest Loser" diet plan, supposedly the best weight loss plan for diabetics as well. Since Sept. 1st I have actually lost 7 - 8 lbs, trying to keep the calories between 1300 - 1600 daily. My overall diet is pretty healthy, I eat lots of fruit & veggies & some whole grains, but I confess I also love the baked sweets and chocolate - I refuse to live without CHOCOLATE! So I'm just trying to work small servings of lower-cal chocolate into the overall diet. So far, so good. I realize this is the WORST time of the year to try and lose weight, so I'm probably more focused on maintaining the loss for now (of course, if I lose a few more between now & Dec. 31st I won't complain!). Then of course in January 2016 I'll make another big push to see if I can lose the rest - goal weight is 135; this morning was 148.5!

Welcome to the FS 'Family'! Good luck to you (AND your DH)! If you can navigate the holiday season without gaining, that is a HUGE win and achievement (both mentally and physically). I had MUCH more weight to lose than you, but you and I are currently at the same weight (roughly) and headed towards the same goal . . . TRACKING every bite has been key to my success as well as taking full advantage of the support of this community . . .

I have to have a little bit of chocolate every day, too, or else I binge-eat way more than I should. I eat mostly dark chocolate, because that's supposed to have health benefits, right? ;)

Welcome to the site. Sounds like you're going about this in a healthy way with a gradual weight loss over time. I've got to agree with you on the chocolate, especially the good dark chocolate...got to be able to work that into the program at least sometimes. Wishing you lots of success!
