I agree. I was reading the other day that autopsies of children like 10 years old have been showing early symptoms of heart disease. Maybe the screening is a good idea, but the treating aspect that will likely follow is what makes me want to scream.

Everyone needs to educate themselves on statin drugs. Japan did a study on the effectiveness of statin drugs on cholesterol and have abandoned testing for it. The drugs themselves carry a disclaimer that states lower cholesterol has never been shown to reduce heart attack or stroke. In Germany, they treat you for cholesterol levels... if they're too low. Big pharma needs more $$$. They want everyone on these drugs 'just in case'.

I'm wondering if I can quit the statin and Zetia that I am on now that I have totally reworked my WOE. Think I'm gonna talk to the doc about it at my next appointment.

I totally agree with Northernmusician. Rhontique, do you really think your Dr. would recommend dropping a drug that he gets kickbacks on? Please read up on the side effects of statin drugs.

Below is bunch of stuff you should read with regards to Cholesterol and why as with Fat and Salt is yet another lie, all for profit....I have yet to figure out how to get paragraph breaks to work in this format, so sorry if it runs on and on. Everyone assumes you want your Cholesterol low...but why? LDL is very helpful in repairing arterial wall damage, it's not LDL's fault that you keep eating inflammatory foods causing the damage to begin with. A few things to note. A fasting Cholesterol test cannot measure LDL, it is a calculation using the formula Total Cholesterol = (LDL+HDL) + (Triglycerides/5). You can measure HDL, and Tri's, but not LDL. Given you have 2 of 3 variables, solve the equation. However, try to lower both Tri's and LDL....plug in some sample numbers and try. As LDL is not one number but many that can be categorized into small dense particles and large fluffy benign ones, you have a formula that should read Total Cholesterol = (smallLDL+largeLDL+HDL) + (Triglycerides/5). So now we have a formula with 4 variables, and we only know 2....so now it's a formula that does not work. Each time there is a study that tries to show that lowering Cholesterol saves lives and prevents heart disease and heart attack, it fails, it shows the opposite, that higher cholesterol = longer life. The reason we have the mantra of lower cholesterol is $, billions upon billions per year. Lipitor has an add showing 36% reduction in heart disease from taking Lipitor, however, the data doesn't hold up, the differences were 90 to 90.4% (8 men). They took the worst of the worst from 350,000 thousand patients with the highest cholesterol numbers and put half on a placebo, the other half on statins, overall, statins helped 8 men...that's it. Cholesterol is a con, there are several books on the subject and several great sites and videos. Some which are listed below: Dr. Mark Hyman: https://youtu.be/dxeZkT6uLgU David Diamond – Demonization and Deception in Cholesterol Research: Video Lecture: 58mins long….. https://youtu.be/yX1vBA9bLNk Zoe Harcombe: http://www.zoeharcombe.com/.../we-have-got-cholesterol.../ Chris Kresser references a “meta-analysis”, as does Dr. Malcom Kendrick: http://chriskresser.com/new-study-puts-final-nail-in-the.../ Dr. Malcom Kendrick: author of “the Great Cholesterol Con” http://www.newdawnmagazine.com/.../the-great-cholesterol... Below is the link to the meta-analysis of various studies with over 350,000 participants referenced….in the previous links... Quick summary of the findings….. “Conclusions: A meta-analysis of prospective epidemiologic studies showed that there is no significant evidence for concluding that dietary saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of CHD or CVD. More data are needed to elucidate whether CVD risks are likely to be influenced by the specific nutrients used to replace saturated fat.” http://ajcn.nutrition.org/.../01/13/ajcn.2009.27725.abstract

@Rhontique, after researching the effects of statins I against the advice of my Dr. stopped taking them to help my cholesterol levels. My levels have dropped since that time mostly because of diet changes but they never actually got my cholesterol into normal ranges. My doctor did a test called a CRP High Sensitivity which establishes what your chance of a heart attack is and after 31 years of being insulin dependent and having major heart disease in my family mine is within the middle of normal range! There are too many ways to treat cholesterol naturally and I'm a testimony to the damage statins can do to you.

Cholesterol Clarity is another good read, Rhontique. I personally wouldn't take a statin to save my life (pun intended).

Makes me nervous because I had a blocked artery at age 53 and have been on statins ever since (I'm 63 now). Don't want to go thru that again! But I do wonder if going off them would lessen some of the pain I have daily. I know part of it is arthritis, but the pain already decreased when I changed my WOE. I feel so much better because of reduced inflammation from eliminating all those carbs.

Ask him how do your HDL/LDL ratios look. If he can't answer that, you definitely need t find another doctor. Even then, the tests can be a little misleading because LCHF even makes the bad cholesterol puffy and plump, which means that they are possibly not even a problem.

My ratios are great! He is really pleased with how my numbers look. The last blood workup was about the time I started making changes. So no time for the WOE to have made a change. Next schedule for test is Jan, I may not have any cholesterol at all!! LOL Zeros across the board!

I feel ya, Tamarah Jo. I have a close relative that is on a list of medicine a mile long, including statins, High blood pressure medicine, insulin... I talk until I'm blue in the face, but it doesn't do any good because HER DOCTOR SAID... I think that is why I am so actively trying to help people here. I KNOW LCHF WORKS, BECAUSE I AM LIVING PROOF. There are so many others out there also.
