Trying to get a Tbsp of flaxseed meal every day, so this is the concoction: 2 cups unsweetened soymilk, 4 Tbsp each flaxseed meal and cocoa powder, whir through blender, makes 4 servings. Thinking I might start adding blackstrap molasses, but good as is

I just put it in my oatmeal. Be careful with flax and chia. Too much without copious water may lead to bowel obstruction.

I do a lot of chia seeds, too. I've heard about the bowel obstruction issue, too, but I don't go hog wild. It's generally never more than a tablespoon of flax and a tablespoon or two of chia, the latter soaked most of the time. Plus, I drink a lot of fluids

Good to know, Rene! I buy my chia and hemp seeds in the store-brand bags at Natural Grocers, and get the Bob's Red Mill ground flaxseed there as well. My husband includes flax and seeds in the bread he bakes

woofwaggers -- which type of seeds are you talking about? The flaxseed meal wouldn't be good in salad, and whole flaxseed doesn't get digested, so you don't get the benefits. Hemp seed would be fine on salads, and I've seen some dressing recipes using it. Chia seed you could use, but don't go overboard. As mentioned, too much of it without enough liquid has led to some pretty serious complications. I never eat more than a tablespoon at a time, except for my chia seed pudding, where it's soaked. It absorbs a lot of liquid, so you don't want it to gum up in your digestive tract. I use pumpkin seeds a lot on salads, and those are highly nutritious. For other uses for the flaxseed meal, a lot of people put it in their morning oatmeal. You can also substitute it in baked goods for part of the flour

I used to buy chia seeds from the bulk section but I was getting too many rocks, so I started just going with hemp hearts in my beans and soups. It's been a great way to make them more filling without relying on meat too much.

Wow, buddy. I don't think I've ever had a rock in the ones I get from Natural Grocers. Hemp hearts are pretty awesome, nutritionally speaking
