One of the nice things about living in such a tiny townhome is that I can't have as much "stuff" in it. Sounds weird, but less stuff is actually easier to keep track of. My kitchen is small, but everything is within reach. I've for the most part found a place for everything and am getting a routine down. Now, when I was packing up my old (bigger) kitchen, I cam across lots of duplicates. For instance, 4 boxes of cocoa - why on earth did I have four boxes of cocoa? I threw 2 away and combined the other two. Also, one opened and one unopened bag of both brown sugar and powdered sugar - I gave the unopened bags to my older daughter. And two boxes of Bisquick, both opened. How does THAT happen? I guess it happens when you have so much STUFF that things get pushed to the back and get hidden behind other stuff. Or maybe it's the "Walmart Syndrome," where you see something (like cocoa?) and think, "hey, I could use that." Em, maybe not, haha! One thing's for sure, I'm going to have to do a better supply inventory/kitchen mgmt. in the future. I can see meal planning being a big aid to this - write up the menu, then CHECK to see if you've already got the stuff you need BEFORE grocery shopping. Who'd have thought?

Another thing - my hubby and I get paid every two weeks on opposite weeks, which means neither of us need to buy more than a week's worth of food. Theoretically, that means I should be spending far less than I do at the grocery store, haha! Of course, my hubby was the youngest of six, and his parents always "stocked up," so he tends to do that as well. But that must stop, because when our new house is finished, it's kitchen will also be smaller than our old house. Bigger than the tiny townhome, but still smaller than before. One of my goals in this new home is to downsize - our daughters are grown, and we simply don't need a big house. Plus it's not like the grocery store is 30 miles away. We can walk to a grocer from our tiny townhome, and our new home will be a short drive from two grocery stores. So again, no need to "stock up." Just another mindset we need to get out of.
