another day. successfully stayed on track. If anything, I am not eating enough, But am feeling really down.I somehow expect miracles and everything will be better immediately. I have abused my body for decades and now expect it be all be fine overnight. I am now able to do the stairs much easier, my knee does not hurt nearly as much. After going upstairs (2 sets of 6 steps), I am no longer puffing like an old steam engine..All this in one week and I am feeling like crap!! Losing weight is all in the head and I beat myself up all the time. This is changing right NOW!!! I am a winner and I WILL DO THIS.

Hi Geo, Looking at your food journal on this day I really worry about you not eating ENOUGH. At 400 lbs, your body uses more calories than you ate just to keep itself alive daily. You want to create a deficit to lose weight, but never that low. You are basically starving your body and it will start breaking down your muscle tissue (not fat) to get the nutrients it needs because it's easier to get it from your muscle than from your fat. So, you won't lose fat, you'll lose muscle which is not what you want. Muscle tissue burns more calories than fat does, so the more muscle you have the more calories your body will naturally burn, plus strong muscle tissue helps supports your joints, protect you from injury, etc. The reason you were feeling really down could be tied to not eating enough also. Your body needs nutrition to ensure that everything works as it should, from your muscles to your hormone levels to the chemicals in your brain (including the ones that make us feel good!). I would really recomend you consult an online calculator to determine how many base calories you need each day and then just reduce that by 500-800 calories to begin losing weight. So if you need 2800 calories just to maintain your weight, start by eating only 2000 or so to begin losing weight. But try to get all of those 2000 calories. That's fuel for your engine. Your body (engine) can't burn fat if you're always running it out of fuel, right? Try to up the protein in your diet too with 4 oz servings of meat instead of only 2 oz, through in an egg, some dairy like skim milk or low fat yogurt and try to choose whole grain (look for higher fiber count) breads and pastas instead of white bread and pasta. All of this combined should help you lose the weight at a healthy pace while preserving your HEALTH which is really the most important part, right?
