I was diagnosed insulin-resistant & pre-diabetic about 2001 which very well may have progressed to diabetes around 2010 considering the extra-bad state of my health at that time. Craving-driven eating of junk carbs (starches & sugars like bread, pasta, pizza, ice cream, chips, you name it) sent me on a roller coaster of wildly unstable blood sugar levels which had devastating effects on my life.

Not only did I gain a ton of fat, I was severely depressed & constantly tired & brain-fogged. I got bad edema in my ankles. My heart raced even when I wasn't exerting myself. A ton of my hair fell out. I couldn't walk for more than a few minutes without having to rest. I got scary shooting pains in my left leg. I eventually developed cataracts which I am certain were due to my body's metabolic difficulties. It was at this point where I realized that if I didn't get myself on track that I wasn't long for this world.

So, I went back to the one thing that I knew from past experience would work for me: low carb, MODERATE protein, HIGH FAT. This does not mean I don't eat carbs! It just means my body goes haywire if I eat too many of them, so I limit my daily carbs to a level that my body can handle without causing weight gain or a plateau. My daily carbs come from non-sugary/non-starchy veggies like kale or green beans, though occasionally from low-GI berries & nuts.

I exercise when I feel like I am able, but most of my fat loss comes from the beneficial state of nutritional ketosis which I have been in since Jan 2014. My BP & lipid numbers are stellar. My blood sugar levels are normal & I have no sign of diabetes. I have energy again & can once again think clearly. This is the right track for me!
