After a few years of sedentary lifestyle I have kept gaining weight. I have always been chubby since teenage years but in the last few years I have become obese. In the past I have followed with temporary success several diets but later managed to regain the weight quite soon after I stopped.
Now after taking the time to study more the main nutritional science theories I am absolutely convinced that almost all diets on the market are very bad for the health and most of all make you fatter because they push you to get an unbalanced nutrition profile that is impossible to maintain long term.
The only approach that can be sustainable is a balanced one that takes into account one's preferences and idiosyncrasies to design a balanced profile within a lifestyle change approach. The only thing that matters in terms of fat loss is to create and maintain a calorie deficit and that is way easier to accomplish long term with a balanced diet that contain foods that we love and need, rather than with fad diets such as Atkins, Scarsdale and the likes of these.
I dislike the idea of food as magic potions that for some strange reason produces different results depending on the nutrient combinations and intake timing. There is absolutely no scientific evidence for this urban myths and I thinks that they are dangerous and ineffective.
