What was the food like? 

Wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing - it's so great to see China through your eyes. It looks like it was the most amazing trip of a lifetime. 

Thanks all. What impressed us most was how rapidly the country has developed. The cities are ultramodern, and seem very affluent. It was also good to see and hear that the central government also now has a good attitude towards helping the many minorities to maintain their cultures, and is also aiming to improve the situation regarding pollution. People we met all seemed very positive about the way things were going for the country.

Tracey, food was good, actually quite healthy with lots of veggies. Most of the time we ate Chinese, in nice, very clean, moderately priced restaurants, lunch and dinner. We did a fully guided tour, which meant that our guides also chose the restaurants and picked suitable dishes for us, never anything weird. We sometimes wished they would be a little more adventurous in their choices! We enjoyed the more spicy food we ate in Sichuan 😀 On the Yangtze River cruise, the was a buffet for the Chinese on board, but for the few Westerners we had a menu to pick from each evening, and dishes were individually cooked to a high standard and served to your table! Breakfasts everywhere were buffets, usually with a wide range of Chinese and western items to choose from.
