Dropped another .4 pounds. I didn't track what I ate but know that it is enough, combined with the exercise I am doing, to drop a bit. Successful restart on her I would say.

QUESTION: Are those height/weight charts you see at the doctor's office accurate? Let's take a poll on this. I imagine many of us have been at a lower weight or even ideal weight one time or another in our lives.

SO DOES THAT DOCTOR HEIGHT WEIGHT CHART FIT YOUR PARTICULAR SITUATION? WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR IDEAL WEIGHT?

When i am at what i consider my ideal weight (the weight i was in high school, the weight i did sprint triathalons and marathon relays, the weight at which i had the most energy), i am still considered overweight by 3 lbs. When i was weak and sickly and stressed and smoking at 45 lbs under my ideal, iam considered normal weight. A chart can't see your muscle mass and cardio health.

When a chart says if you are 5'11" and you should weigh X number of pounds, I think about some people I know that are very fit and weigh 230,much over the charts, so I was just curious about what you guys and girls thought. Bill, I agree with you about the healthy part. If blood pressure, cholesterol etc., are good even if it's at a higher weight. That is pretty much all that matters unless you are a model that needs to look very thin.

Bdmgoggins, 3 pounds overweight in relatively nothing. Glad you are off the cigs. I agree about the muscle and cardio health.

Thanks it been about 11 years. Never going back. The funny thing is quitting isn't what contributed to my weight gain!

I believe the ones that include your frame size are not too far off. But I tend to ignore the charts and go by how I look and feel.

I think you're right. I've set my goal at the highest point of the CDC recommended weight for my height (174 lbs at 5'10"). I can't imagine being 174 as I was 271 in April. I don't think I'll like how I look at that weight so I may halt the drop if I start to feel "skinny".

BMI charts are simply a height to weight ratio. There are much more accurate ways to measure "health" such as waist size and body fat percentage. For reference, many of our Olympic athletes are "obese" on this chart. Take it with a grain of salt.

Nice drop BTW Madanjen!! A rule of thumb for health that I recently ran into; our waist size (in inches or cms) should be at least half or less that our height (in inches or cms). Eg. For me at 73 inches tall, my waist size should be 36.5 inches or less...same source said that for each inch lost around the waist, it equates to approximately 5 pounds of fat lost (with some exceptions at the higher or lower end of the waist size spectrum). Not endorsing this info but just found it interesting and thought I'd pass it on.

Talk to the doctor about where he or she wants you to be. I'm over the height to weight chart, but my doctor said he's happy with where I am.
