After a 10 day business trip to Shenzhen, China, this is a lot better than it could have been. I had no control over ingredients or portions? (everything was so tasty I always finished my plate) I did avoid most noodles and rice but I also tried a lot of local cuisine, the steamed buns they served at "Tea" were especially decadent.

I work for a little consulting company on contract to Microsoft where I help their customers build secure, scalable, reliable, performant IoT solutions. Microsoft has labs in Redmond, Shenzhen and Munich. So I was there doing some training/coaching with the engineers there.

Massive place Shenzhen, did you get to SeaWorld, I walked down Chicken street one day by accident, I burned off 2lb running away :)

The Hilton hotel they put me in was one block away from SeaWorld. That place can be expensive (relative to the rest of Shenzhen) unless you keep to the restaurants on the third floor. I'd wake up at 5 each morning and go for a walk to try and explore before I'd catch a taxi and get locked in an office from 8-5. It wasn't that bad, but it was definitely a business trip. I don't know where Chicken street was (Google can't find one in Shenzhen) but I had a lot of fun shopping and eating in and around Shangle street in the Shekou Residential District and I really enjoyed exercising with the locals up in Sihai Park. I was the dumb white guy and they graciously humored me as I tried to join in their zumba/tai chi radio lead exercises.
