This marks my half way point to my goal weight. 40 days into my fast and feeling perfect, each day feels easier than the last and my goal seems eventual. It all feels nowhere near a struggle as my past attempts with different methods have been. I highly recommend well managed fasting to anyone interested in losing ANY amount of weight and in good health otherwise. Thanks everyone for the likes and comments thusfar and I wish everyone else an enlightening journey on their way to their ideal weight!

It's a big chance that by starving yourself, you'll end up developing a binge eating disorder. Be careful.

Antares0, Starving and Fasting is not the same 🙄

Can you tell me what kind of fasting you are doing?

Keilin_4, to starve means to deprive of nourishment and/or to suffer extreme hunger. While fasting for extended periods of time, I imagine you may experience such a sensation :). It is not advisable to restrain completely from food to lose weight, as it can be dangerous. I know it may be tempting because of the rapid weight loss. As a medical professional, I was just trying to warn this extremely motivated gentleman of the possible side effects and risks. Good day to you!

I currently adhere to a 16 hour fast/8 hour eating window as dictated by the LeanGains protocol. Martin (LeanGains) has done research that shows fasting for more than 48 hours put your body into a state where it starts to consume muscle before it will consume fat. Don’t forget, your brain is the strongest muscle in your body. It needs food!

I am taking in a daily stack of electrolyte supplements and vitamins as well as an Ephedrine-Caffeine-Aspirin-Theanine-Taurine stack that is totally optional for anyone considering a fast. I consume no calories outside of trace amounts found in diet drinks but prefer to drink water, carbonated or not, as my daily source of 100 ounces of fluid. I began my fast by adapting my body to ketones using a ketogenic diet then slowly tapered down my daily calorie intake to about 1000-1100 calories before I went from an OMAD diet to total fasting. Our bodies have inbuilt mechanisms to support fasting and it's benefits are numerous, including spikes in leucine that promote the maintenance of muscles, contrary to the myth of fasting breaking down muscles before it breaks down fat.

Sidenote, I would not describe any form of fasting in an obese person as "starvation". The body does not consume vital organs and tissue for sustenance because, in an obese person, there are hundreds of thousands of calories worth in energy for the body to tap into. With properly managed fasting, the absence of nutrients that cannot directly be sourced from fat is neither a relevant factor. There are very few medical professionals that are deeply involved in the sphere of fasting and can make informed comments on the safety of fasting and I doubt any of them are browsing Fatsecret!

Just a couple of questions. What happens to your weight after your fasting program has completed and you resume eating real food. While on the fasting program what is done to help the participants learn to make better food choices, learn portion control and learn to live and eat in the world of real food. It seems that without those pieces in place the participants would quickly fall back into old habits and patterns and consequently regain their lost weight. How far off am I?

Theshtig, yeah, you got me there, all the 6 years of hard work put into medical school were a joke, so is basic human physiology. Fasting is great, I'm not denying its benefits. In the field of nutrition, new groundbreaking "evidence" of how our eating behaviour until now has been totally wrong emerges nearly every day. My initial comment had only the humble intention of warning you and others of the potential risks of fasting for extended periods of time. I don't recall minimising your achievements or trying to sound incisive. I see now that it was a useless endeavour, as it was interpreted more as an insult. Good day to you.
