Thoughts: someone told me recently that I should do my measurements. meaning chest, waist, butt, and thighs to see what I am actually losing in weight. I think it would be a good choice, but I've just been going off what the scary flat box in the floor screams when I stand on it. Is it better to do measurements or is it better to do scale. Thoughts anyone. I guess both would be fine but I've never thought much about it until today.

Measurements are best. A lot of trainers say avoid the scale completely for the first month or so of a transformation journey. If you’re going to use a scale it’s good to use one that calculates your body fat percentage and water retention and not just your weight.

I use clothes, I hate to bother with all that measuring. when old clothes I could not wear fit, I know the fat is coming off.

The measuring tape seems to take some of the power away from the scale.

Measure for sure

I would do both. I know I'm losing inches and sometimes the scale is not moving. The off scale is victories too. Embrace both.

i think measurements, and clothing fit, are more indicative of progress than the scale.

MEASUREMENTS. Hip to waist ratio is what you should be aiming for. BMI is not good to go by. Look it up.

I have also starting doing measurements and using the scale.

Definitely measurements... muscle weighs more that fat. You could be adding muscle and losing fat which will have your measurements smaller

Do both but the scale weekly. Best is the clothes, gives more excitement and encouragement when you can get into those duds

With the amount of fat you have to lose, anyone who advises you to ignore the scale is either ignorant or irresponsible. Measurements are also useful, but as an addition to, not substitute for, the scale. Also, as others have pointed out, the mirror is a useful guide. Take pics now and update weekly so you can look back and set yourself straight when diet fatigue sets in. Good luck!

Measurements and bodyfat% are more important to me.

I just use the scale now, but once I start to work out, I'll definitely have to start measuring because muscle weighs more than fat (per volume for those who are pedantic than I am). So while the scale might say I'm staying the same or even gaining, the measurements might indicate how much muscle I'm actually gaining. There are calipers to help with that, as well.

I do both. Scale almost daily but post once every two weeks on FS. I measure once a month. I redo my macros every few pounds lost. I enjoy when formerly tight clothes get looser. These are tools to help stay on track. Always do what works for you. Good luck!!

I agree both methods are fine. Recently I have started tracking body fat...
