Made some small piles last night in preparation for a 3 day backpacking trip over the 4th.

The realization that I was missing out on experiencing many of the beautiful places in my state because I could barely drag myself a 1/2 mile up a trail was a huge motivator to getting in shape.

Anyone else found motivation and inspiration from Nature on your weight loss/fitness journey? What is your favorite thing to do in the outside?

Apart from hiking and backpacking, I really enjoy identifying wildflowers. I have a couple books at home and take pictures to sleuth out the varieties. It’s so exciting to discover a new kind I’ve never seen before!

Good for you 👏!! I also live in a gorgeous area of a beautiful state. Hiking nearby, and often, is one of those things that I MUST incorporate into my life now!! P.S. I love that you have the reusable silicone bags - so much better than single-use baggies!! ❤️👍🏻

Happy trails! My day is not complete without time in my garden, digging in the dirt and watching the butterflies and listening to the birds.

Thanks all! SoHangry: Nice! They’ve been so helpful on longer trips. Keyten77: She’s got it right! If space is an issue or you buy in bulk, repackaging is the way to go; most packages are way overboard compared to what’s inside. And good boots make all the difference. 😁 Pixie722: Sadly, the silicon bag is just part of our cooking system. I haven’t found a space saving way to use them for backpacking. Everything has to fit into a bear bag for tree hanging so every ounce and square inch matters. And happy hiking to you! Erikahollister: Love it! Someday I hope to have a garden space. My moms was epic as a kid. And I too love listening to the birds.

Are you new to hiking? Just throwing this out there FYI. When you are buying hiking shoes buy them at least 1/2 preferably 1 whole size longer than your normal shoes size, otherwise you will end up with blisters on the ends of your toes. Carry Vaseline to rub between your toes. Carry something like Nu-Skin to paint on any areas that might become tender. Do not rely on your cell phone GPS. If you loose service, you are sol. Always carry a map of your hiking area and learn how to use a compass. Go to the internet and look up the Sierra Club’s list of 10 essentials. Buy an emergency 0.22 micron water purification straw that filters about 20 [or 50] gallons of water. It is only about $20. Well worth the money. I’m assuming you have this pretty well covered, but just in case———water, water, water.
