What do you suppose you are doing when you have the urge to eat because of emotional issues and not hunger? Is it to drown out the emotions or what? You're not hungry but you have the urge to stuff anything and eveything into your mouth. If I could figure out why I do this maybe I would stop it.

There are a lot of reasons why people eat emotionally, but drowning emotions is one of them. The way it's been explained to me, when we eat a lot our bodies divert a lot of energy to digestion. That's why we get so tired when we eat a heavy meal, but it also slows down everything else we do including thinking and feeling.
An interesting note - Sherlock Holmes used to fast for days on particularly challenging cases because he felt that fasting was the only way his mind worked at its highest level. (Yes, I know he's fictional.)

Thank you. :) That helps to know that I'm trying not to think by eating. What I need to do is occupy my mind with something besides eating. I just need to do it, which is easier said than done when something is bothering you. But I'm going to do it and I will succeed.
