For me, for the biggest part, it was easier to control what I ate while I was at home during Christmas break (yeah, I get the school Christmas break). Now that I have returned to work the past two weeks, the what and how much of what I intake is totally blown. Especially today. Today was a tough day, I know I could have modified a lot of my factors and changed the where / what I ate and what I did for snacks; it's been a tough and emotional day. The tough days are not an excuse I realize, but I'm still learning how to actually handle /deal with real and perceived stress without a cigarette. Today is the first day in quite some time, that the primary thought I had was "man, if I could just have a cig" -- instead I went for an overabundance of food and junk snacks. So, for right now, I'm not going to make any promises, but I'll try to be good the remainder of the weekend. I just know that I need to get back into "control" of what and how I eat. Hey, at least I am being honest about not promising to be good.
I mainly started on the app on my phone recording my caloric intake. But then I realized this app is so much more and I love to view it on my computer. I love the support, the challenges, and the recipes. I joined mainly to self monitor what and how much I ate, as well as what nutrients I am taking in the most .. I found this place to be so much more! Going to get back on track; hopefully tomorrow... and tomorrow is always tomorrow so every day is a new day!

Welcome.... glad you're here. We're here for each other. No question is stupid. So ask away. Good luck on quitting ciggies. It's a biggie and probably the most important decision in regard to your health. I quit 8 years ago so I know what you're going through. Hang in there. You'll make it.

Thanks ClassicRocker -- I am 3 months NO ciggies because of abnormal chest xray and CT Scan (knowing I needed to quit long before then); but that was the alright, it's cigs or my health and I'm to damn young honestly. Today was the first day, follow up CT Scan, of having stress to the point that my constant thought was having a cig -- so naturally I turned to food. Knowing I could have made better choices, but I didn't, I went straight FOR FOOD.

Some may not agree with me, but kick the ciggies first. You've got enough evidence telling you this. I quit but I still had a stroke because my heart threw a clot. And I'd just lost 82 lbs. and exercised daily. Genetics and ciggies were the culprits.

i agree with ClassicRocker. I snacked a lot during the first few months of quitting smoking, well i still snack too much lol, but it's one of the only things that kept me sane. trying to change too many things at one time could get overwhelming. maybe a goal to stock up on work snacks you can eat a lot of with less guilt like watermelon, celery ect. could be helpful to both issues? good luck

They say that food is the first addiction, and others are added on top. Often when we quit one (smoking, for example), the desire for food increases. Knowing this, you can guard against it. Just be easy on yourself, congratulate yourself on your successes and don't beat yourself up when you have slip-ups. Good luck, I know it's not easy!
