how often do you use those giant hexs? I know I stopped carrying the big ones because they were just added weight and I never used them but I know every area is different. do you lead climb or top rope?

Nice - I admire that skill. I am a musician and found my hands couldn't really handle sticking them in crevices and such

Otb, I used to lead trad routes, but I haven't climbed in years. Mostly I was climbing sport routes. I could lead those pretty confidently. For now I'll be top roping until I've built up my strength again.

Hcb, that is understandable. I've had many friends who are musicians who weren't interested in climbing because they were concerned with injuring their hands. But I've also had friends who love the sport so much that they climb anyway.

That's such a cool sport! And it's even cooler that you're teaching your son

The last time I was in that area, I went climbing then rappelling off a cliff in Harper's Ferry with friends. Tour buses would stop to let the passengers watch us!

I've never climbed in Harper's Ferry but I plan to check it out now that I live here.
